Elon’s kicking off, again*†: complaining that Apple have stopped advertising on the site, that they’re threatening to pull Twitter from the App Store and that they charge too much commission for apps.
Which is funny: the iOS version, like the Android App, is free.
Saying that … ?
I wouldn’t be complaining, too loudly, if I were him.
Apple still sell a lot of phones.
Complaining about it … ? Could lose him customers.

I’ve got a meeting, today: my last meeting with the Restart work programme I’ve been attending for the past year.
Thankfully?
And as I can’t afford the train fare, and the person who arranges the train tickets is off ill?
It’s by phone: as the exit meeting doesn’t need to be in person.
I can only hope it goes well.

Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga‡, Mumª and Debbiº putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1)28th November is Bedfordshire Day. The date was chosen as it marks whose birth: John Bunyan’s, Samuel Whitbread’s or Louise Allen’s?
A1)John Bunyan’s.
Q2)What’s Bedfordshire’s historic county town: Bedford, Cranfield or Dunton?
A2)Bedford.
Q3)What — according to Wikipedia — is Bedfordshire’s largest town by population: Luton, Bedford or Leighton Buzzard?
A3)Luton.
Q4)The Hatters are from Bedfordshire. The Hatters are which Bedfordshire based football club: Luton Town FC, Biggleswade Town FC or AFC Dunstable?
A4)Luton Town FC.
Q5)Finally … ? The Millbrook Testing Ground is in Bedfordshire. What’s it a testing ground for: vehicles, bombs or drugs?
A5)Vehicles.
Here’s a thought …
“There have been women I have loved ... A lot, as discreetly as possible.”
Jacques Chirac, 29 November 1932 – 26 September 2019.
* Apple have declined to comment. Are you surprised … ?
† I don’t use an app to access Mastodon on my (Android) phone. I go in through the mobile version of Chrome. If Apple does suspend Twitter, iPhone users should be able to do something similar.
‡ I think I know what’s happening, there, Olga: we had something similar, a couple of years ago. One group of flats had a power cut: the rest — and the communal areas — didn’t. If I’ve understood things correctly? The electricity in our building comes in, in three phases. One third of the building’s on one phase, another’s on a second, the last is on a third. Basically, the fuses in each third can blow, separately. It sounds like that’s what’s happened at your block.
Sound’s like John’s got a good deal, then: if he’s renting in London! And that Luton could be a theme for a quiz. It’s got an airport you can sing about, if nothing else!
ª Hello, Mum!
º Well, that possibly explains you going into the legal career, Debbi! The few solicitors and barristers I’ve met do tend to be … theatrical. I met one barrister, once, who reminded me of John Cleese. He didn’t look a thing like him, but was very tall. And had a funny walk …
Q5) The Italian Job You are right about the phases. We met one of the neighbours and she told us she had spoken to the president of the building (the one who takes charge of things, meetings, etc. Everybody takes turns). He is an electrician and had told her the same. Mind you, after it came back for a couple of hours or so, it went off in the whole building for a while again, and then, touch wood, it seem to return in full, even the lifts. It created a lot of disruption and it was only for a few hours, so it's difficult to imagine what it must be like for people in Ukraine and other places who experience regular power cuts. I hope the meeting is by phone and it goes well. You've definitely tried hard again, but circumstances are not getting any better... I wonder if the companies have to pay something (I am talking here about Musk's reference to Apple and the App) for being featured. I have no idea. Or perhaps he refers to something like this... https://dazeinfo.com/2022/10/26/apple-app-store-policy-updated-facebook-instagram-must-pay-30-in-app-purchase-fee-for-promoted-posts/
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.

I remember that sketch so well. :)
ReplyDeleteI also recall reading that John Cleese was a barrister. Or studied to be one. Something like that. Just makes me like his work all the more! :)
