Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 25th April 2023.

25th April, 2023.

I have to admit to watching — or, at least, listening to — the news.

And … ?

And I’m very aware both of the war in the UK … and the fighting in Sudan.

Apparently?

There’s a seventy-two hour ceasefire, to allow foreign nationals out of the country.

Personally?

I grew up in the 1970s: when the Middle East and Northern Ireland were a mess.

No change, there, then!

Either way …

It’s something that leaves me laughing derisively, and extremely cynically … whenever the word ‘ceasefire’ gets a mention.

Can you blame me … ?

Oh … I went to my fortnightly meeting with my Job Centre case worker, yesterday.

Who took plenty of time to explain my options.

Whilst he wasn’t that clear on when I’d next be needing to go through the assessment process?

He did explain when I’d be next seeing him — in late June — and what would happen if I claimed this, or that, benefit.

Here’s hoping I can claim the Personal Independence Payment: that sounds like it could be useful.

Did I mention we have workmen in, in my street?

We have workmen in, in my street.

Apparently?

They’re doing ‘multi-media work’.

And have seemingly stopped drilling, for the moment.

I’m grateful.

They’re bloody noisy!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Trevor§ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        25th April is World Penguin Day.   What is a penguin: a bird, a plane or a superhero?

Q2)        25th April is World Malaria Day.   Malaria is usually spread by what: mosquitoes, worms or badgers?   (The video version of the question includes a contribution from Mr Weebl.   Feel free to sing along!)

Q3)        The US Supreme Court decided Erie Railroad Co v. Tompkins on 25th April, 1938.   The case decided that there was no such thing as what: federal common law, federal currency or federal government?

Q4)        Molecular Structure of Nucleic Acids: A Structure for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid was published on 25th April, 1953.   The paper told us that DNA was what shape: double helix shaped, square shaped or pentagonal?

Q5)        Finally … ?   25th April, 1983, saw the Pioneer 10 probe pass what: the Moon, Pluto or Mars?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        24th April, 1973, saw the birth of Sachin Tendulkar.   He’s the highest scoring run scorer in one-day-international, and test, what: rugby league, cricket or rugby union … ?
A1)        Cricket.

Q2)        Tendulkar is also known as the ‘little … ’ what?
A2)        The little master.

Q3)        Tony Visconti was born on 24th April, 1944.   He found fame as a what: actor, record producer, or cheese dish?
A3)        Record producer.

Q4)        Actor, Rory McCann was born on 24th April, 1969.   He played the Hound in which series: The Rings of Power, Game of Thrones or Wednesday?
A4)        Game of Thrones.

Q5)        Finally … ?   24th April is the UN sponsored International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for what: peace, quiet or the environment?
A5)        Peace.
Here’s a thought …
“Touring we thought was a waste of time.   It was much more productive and much more creative to write and record.”
Björn Ulvaeus, born 25 April 1945.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        You know, early May seems to have a few birthdays: at least, of people I know, Olga!   It’s the time of year for it, I think.
You’re right about the news, I think.   Up until recently, Ukraine, collapsing banks,  and scandalous police, were the thing.   And now … ?   It’s ceasefires in the Sudan!   It’s … amazing how fast the news can change!
Rock and roll seems to be calming down: and have less scandals.   There’s possibly an explanation, there.   I remember Justine Frischmann — of Elastica — saying how her record company — and a few others — were hiring a lot of mental health workers.   The companies were trying to make sure musicians didn’t get hooked on god-knows-work … and protect their investment.

        Hello, Mum!

Oh, THAT it is, Debbi!   And that’s before I mention Research and Design!   I’ll leave that there, shall I … ?

I hope the advice works out and you can get a bit more help, Paul. Mental health worker for record companies... That would have been an interesting job, for sure!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
