Sunday 17 March 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-3-2024 — Saint Patrick’s Day.

17th March, 2024: Saint Patrick’s Day.

It’s official: it’s Saint Patrick’s Day!

Yay!

Not that I’m going to be marking it.

I’m not exactly what you’d call Irish!

~≈Î≈~

Oh, just as a thought … ?

I’ve an episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds on in the background: an episode called The Elysian Kingdom.

Christina Chong’s over-acting?

Definitely makes it worth watching!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

The day also saw Trevor§ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        17th March is the feast day of Saint Patrick.   He’s the patron saint of where: Nigeria, South Africa or Ethiopia?

Q2)        Shamrock Rovers FC play what: football, hurling or rugby league?

Q3)        The saint’s occasionally shown with a musical instrument: one on the the Republic of Ireland’s coat of arms.   Which instrument is it?

Q4)        A famous Irish brewery uses that instrument as a logo.   Which brewery?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Which ‘P’ is one of Ireland’s other famous drinks?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        16th March is the feast of Saint Julian of Antioch.   This particular Antioch is now where: Lebanon, Israel or Turkey?   (I’ll show my sources for this question, tomorrow: just in case there’s any arguments.)
A1)        Turkey.   What’s left of it is the modern city of Antakya.   (At the time of writing, 13/2/2024, the entry on Antakya says it’s Antioch on the Orontes.   The entry on Antioch says it isn’t.   I’ve used the entry on Antakya as the basis of this question, and included a screen shot¶ at the foot of this post.)

Q2)        The town of Halabja was attacked: on 16th March, 1988.   By which country’s forces: Iran’s, Iraq’s or Syria’s?
A2)        Iraq’s.

Q3)        16th March, 2024, is the 76th day of the year.   Is 76 odd or even?
A3)        Even.

Q4)        Singer, Tammi Terrell, died on 16th March, 1970.   She recorded “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” with whom: Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye or Percy Sledge?
A4)        Marvin Gaye.

Q5)        Finally … ?   16th March is the feast day of Saint Finian Lobhar.   He’s said to have which condition: leprosy, HIV AIDS or pneumonia?
A5)        Leprosy: also known as Hansen’s Disease.
Here’s a thought …
“In Ireland the inevitable never happens and the unexpected constantly occurs.”
Sir John Pentland Mahaffy.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Yes: Question one was loaded, Olga!   Hence the screen shot, further down.
At any rate … ?   I think ‘knuckle-bones’ — and taba, as well, by the sound of things — are turning into good ol’ fashioned generic terms!   Up there with ‘Hoover’ and ‘Velcro’!

‡        I’m saying nothing, Debbi!   (I keep meaning to look that channel up: mind you, I’ve been watching a lot of Retrobytes, just recently.)

§        Debbi’s left you a reply, Trevor.

This is the relevant screen shot.

  1. Check your date it is not 27th today

If Debbie thought that was Lingo here are the London clubs who play in the Premier League (The top league in England) in no particular order.

    Spurs
    Gunners
    Pensioners
    Cottagers
    Bees
    Eagles (some times called Glaziers)

The above are all nicknames of the clubs.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
