Saturday 16 March 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16th March 2024.

 16th March, 2024.

Right then … it’s Saturday … !

And … ?

I’m possibly going to be writing notes for a set of upcoming reviews.

Yes: it’s officially official.

The Radio Times has announced that the new series of Dr Who — the first two episodes of what’s either series 14/season 1, depending on who you ask! — will air on BBC 1 on 11th May, 2024.

With the same two episodes being available from the BBC iPlayer at 12:00 midnight, the same day.

And, internationally, at 7pm EST on Disney⁺, on 10th May: in order to guarantee a simultaneous release.

I have my reviewing work cut out for me!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Trevor§ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        16th March is the feast of Saint Julian of Antioch.   This particular Antioch is now where: Lebanon, Israel or Turkey?   (I’ll show my sources for this question, tomorrow: just in case there’s any arguments.)

Q2)        The town of Halabja was attacked: on 16th March, 1988.   By which country’s forces: Iran’s, Iraq’s or Syria’s?

Q3)        16th March, 2024, is the 76th day of the year.   Is 76 odd or even?

Q4)        Singer, Tammi Terrell, died on 16th March, 1970.   She recorded “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” with whom: Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye or Percy Sledge?

Q5)        Finally … ?   16th March is the feast day of Saint Finian Lobhar. He’s said to have which condition: leprosy, HIV AIDS or pneumonia?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        15th March is World Consumer Rights Day.   It was first marked when: 1983, 1984 or 1985?
A1)        1983.

Q2)        Footballer, Paul Pogba, was born: on 15th March, 1993.   He currently plays for which Italian side?
A2)        Juventus.   (Currently, he’s suspended on doping charges.)

Q3)        15th March is the UN’s International Day to Combat what: AIDS, Islamophobia or Corruption … ?
A3)        Islamophobia.

Q4)        Director, David Cronenberg, was born: on 15th March, 1943.   Which of his films starred Debbie Harry: Scanners, Videodrome or The Dead Zone?
A4)        Videodrome.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Sly Stone was also born on 15th March, 1943.   He and his band were influential in what type of music: funk, jazz funk or jazz?
A5)        Funk.
Here’s a thought …
“You could be anything in front of that microphone, and that is what was expected of you.”
Mercedes McCambridge, March 16, 1916 – March 2, 2004.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        Funny old thing, Olga: the ‘Idiomas’ drop down took me straight to the English language Knucklebones entry on Wikipedia: here!   I’m assuming ‘tabas’ is not an exact translation … ?
Glad I could help with the song!   Did you know Leee John — Imagination’s lead singer — cropped up in an old Dr Who story?   He’s part of a space pirate crew lead by Lynda Baron: Nurse Gladys Emmanuel from Open All Hours!

‡        I’m possibly going to have to sit in with OHMSM, again, at some point, Debbi: it’s been a while since I’ve seen it.   And, yes, it was a sad ending: I don’t think the series has done anything like it, since.   (The franchise has only killed the main character once: in Daniel Craig’s last film.   How they’ll write him out of that, I don’t know!)
It was definitely the club I needed: although, as it turns out …

§        Cheers, Trevor: you can tell I don’t follow the game.

  1. You can tell Debbie that just naming a city does not indicate which soccer teams plays there. Most large UK and European Cities have multiple soccer teams.

A small example of Northern UK cities gives the fllowing.

    Liverpool - Liverpool and Everton
Manchester – Man City and Man United
Sheffield – Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.

    Turin has Juventus and Torino

Well, taba is supposed to be the name of the bone, although the common name, rather than the anatomically correct one, but it makes sense (although it is a bit odd as knuckles are in the hand and the astragalus is in the foot... Oh, well...) I'd never realised the modern equivalent are those strange contraption. I had seen them but didn't realise that was what they were supposed to be. Intriguing...

  4. Yeah, sorry I'm not up on all the lingo there, Trevor. :)

Other than the occasional use of "dosh" and "knackered" and "cream crackered". Um ... :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
