Thursday 4 April 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-4-2024 — Senegal.

4th April, 2024: Senegal.

Right … it’s officially official.

It’s Thursday!

Which means … ?

That yesterday was Wednesday: a day I found that Audible are doing a new, audio, version of Orwell’s Nineteen-Eighty-Four.

And learnt that there was a recent, Russian, version: directed by Diana Ringo.

I have to admit, I did try watching that, last night.

But have to admit to stopping half way through.

Partly?

The thing was just a little too strange for my tastes: it’s versions of the Two-Minute-Hate, for example, was very different.

Granted: it’s a good looking thing.

But … ?

It’s strangeness, and the fact it owes its character names, and a couple of story points, to Yevgeny Zamyatin’s We*, was something I found both off-putting, and distracting.

Alongside that … ?   I don’t know who translated the text from the original Russian, but the subtitles were … not good.   I’m not familiar with Russian: but am familiar with Orwell’s original novel.

And … ?   The acting was something I found rather stilted.

Combine that with the tiredness I was feeling from the pain killers I’m on … ?

Meant I gave up on Ringo’s 1984, half way through.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡, and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Trevor¶ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        4th April is Independence Day in Senegal.   It marks the country’s independence from where: Spain, Belgium or France?

Q2)        It became independent, when: 1960, 1961 or 1962?

Q3)        Senegal is on which continent?

Q9)        It shares that currency with how many other countries: five, six or seven?

Q10)        Finally … ?   What — according to Wikipedia — is Senegal’s favourite sport: football, Senegalese wrestling or Kabadi?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A4)        Christopher Reeve.   (The film was supposed to the most expensive ever made at the time.   In part, it’s said, because of Brando’s eye-popping salary!)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Brando was an active what: radio ham, jockey or gymnast?
A5)        Radio ham.
Here’s a motto …
“Un Peuple, Un But, Une Foi”.
“One People, One Goal, One Faith”
Senegal’s motto.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I read We — in an English translation — a few years ago.   It’s a riveting read: and one that influenced Orwell when he wrote 1984.   Quite where my copy’s gone?   I don’t know!

†        Cheers, Olga!   I’ll start reading that as soon as I can!   Now … have you seen my copy of We … ?

        Hello, Mum!

§        Ha!   Linda Carlisle would probably agree with you, about California, Debbi¹!   That “… from the sharks and the chardonnay” line in “California” always struck a chord with me!
Remind me to mention Tony Hancock’s The Radio Ham, at some point!

Yeah … we got another 404 error, Trevor: in Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome and Tor!

¹        The next ten question set’s on the 15th, Debbi!   It’s about da Vinci … !

  5. I added my picture to a post on your Facebook page. It was the easiest thing to do.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
