Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2024 — Ankara

13th October, 2024: Ankara.

Right …

I’ve come into money.

Not much — if you’re Jeff Bezos or Time Cook — but enough to make a difference to me.

I’ve already picked up a few useful bits for around the house.

And have a new mattress coming, on Tuesday.

I’m also sizing up sofas.

The prices for some of those are eye watering!

But it’s something that’s much needed.

The biggest problem … ?

Getting rid of the old furniture: at a good price.

I’m going to have to shop around, there!

~≈🛋️≈~

Something I have managed to get — which I’m not planning to tell the DWP about — was a couple of reasonably priced, high capacity, external drives.

It’s a long held believe of mine: having lots of drive space is like having lots of shelf space.

There’s no such thing as having too much shelf space!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        13th October, 1923, saw Ankara named as capital city.   Of where?

Q2)        Ankara’s in Anatolia.   In other words, it’s where: western Asia, southern Africa or north America?

Q3)        Angora is an old name for Ankara.   Angora wool comes from what: a goat, cat or rabbit?

Q4)        There’s an ancient Roman Temple in the Altindag area of Ankara.   A temple dedicated to which Emperor: Augustus, Claudius or Antonius?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The oldest mosque in Ankara has a carved walnut mimber.   What is a mimber: a pulpit, an altar or a bell tower?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Nightfall on 12th October, 2024, marks the end of Yom Kippur.   Yom Kippur is the Day of what: Atonement, Achievement or Attrition?
A1)        The Day of Atonement.

Q2)        It’s the holiest day of the year in which religion: Judaism, Christianity or Islam?
A2)        Judaism.

Q3)        Yom Kippur comes ten days after Rosh Hashanah.   Rosh Hashanah is what: the New Year celebration, harvest festival or summer solstice?
A3)        The New Year celebration.   (According to Jewish law, Rosh Hashanah is the civil New Year: as opposed to 1st Nīsān, the ecclesiastical New Year.)

Q4)        Yom Kippur is one of the High … what?
A4)        High Holy Days.   (I’ve occasionally heard them referred to as the High Holidays: but ‘Holy Days’ is the preferred term on both Wikipedia and the Encyclopedia Britannica.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Yom Kippur is the last of the Ten Days of which ‘R’?
A5)        Ten Days of Repentence.
Here’s a thought …
“After Ankara became the capital of the newly founded Republic [ … ], new development divided the city into an old section, called Ulus, and a new section, called Yenişehir.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Ankara.
A song …

And a soundtrack …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        The Catalan aviary, Olga?   That really doesn’t sound suspect.   😂
And yes, there’s a few more bits and bobs, coming.   I’ve finally bought my own shoe horn.   They never tell you how exciting these things are, when you’re a teenager!
Have fun at the litter pick!

        Hello, Mum!

Oh, I know what you mean, Debbi!   Saying that … ?   I’m grateful I could afford the external drives: I got mildly jealous of your twenty terabyte one!

  2. Don't be too jealous of me. I'm barely functional at times. :)

I could use an extra hard drive for my brain. You know? To offload some stuff. Just store it elsewhere. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
