Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-10-2024 — The Subway

27th October, 2024: the Subway.

Right …

Time’s a-wastin’ … !

But … ?

I have to confess, I’ve got up early!

Frankly?

I’m blaming the clocks going back.

It always throws me off!

~≈⏱≈~

Did I mention I have a new toaster?

And a new fuse board?   One that was installed, last year?

I just tried making toast with the new toaster … which blew the fuse board.

Climbing up a ladder, to reset the thing, early in the morning … ?

Is not what I call fun!

~≈⚡️≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        New York City’s subway opened for business on 27th October.   Of which year: 1902, 1903 or 1904?

Q2)        It operates in four of the city’s five boroughs.   Name one of the four boroughs it operates in.

Q3)        What’s the one borough the Subway doesn’t operate in?

Q4)        The city has how many numbered or lettered route designations: twenty-six, twenty-seven or twenty-eight?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Subway is owned by whom: the government of New York City, the New York City Transit Authority, the government of New York State or Transport for London … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        26th October is Angam Day. Where: Nauru, Vanuatu or Indonesia?
A1)        Nauru.

Q2)        Seth McFarlane was born on 26th October, 1973. He voices Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Brian Griffin, Glenn Quagmire and many other characters: in which animated show?
A2)        Family Guy.

Q3)        Cricketer, Ronnie Irani, was born on 26th October, 1971. What — when he finished his domestic career in 2007 — was the last county side he played for?
A3)        Essex.

Q4)        The Royal Charter was wrecked on 26th October, 1859. Off the coast of where: Anglesey, Bristol or Troon?
A4)        Anglesey.

Q5)        Finally … ? The Football Association was founded on 26th October, 1863. It’s the governing body of Association Football, where: England, Northern Ireland, Wales or Scotland?
A5)        England. (It also governs the sport in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.)
Here’s a thought …
“… the New York City Subway is one of the world's oldest public transit systems, one of the most-used, and the one with the most stations …”.
From the Wikipedia entry on the Subway.
A song …

And an earworm§ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        I’m glad to hear a doctor say that, Olga!   There’s worse on the way, as well: check these out!   (One venue in China has a pest room for women.   I’m saying nothing!)
Did the tablecloth offer to explode … ?

They’re popular, here, too, Debbi!   I’m just wondering where the US English term comes from.
I’m going to be experimenting with 4k teaser videos, Debbi: handily, Keynote can export slides at 4K resolution.   I think that will help the process: as my copy of iMovie seems to be picky …

§        Did they just use the F-word in that version?   I don’t remember hearing that in the movie!

  1. I’ve JUST had a look at the movie of the song: apparently, the word is ‘bugging’. I was wondering about that … !

  2. Q1) 1904

    Q2) Queens

    Q3) Staten Island

    Q4) twenty-eight

Q5) the government of New York City
No, thankfully the tablecloth didn't promise to explode any parts of the body. toasters and other household appliances that heat up (food or the place) are the most likely to cause problems with the fuses. It depends on how much power you have on the contract. We reduced ours when the prices went up, but then discovered we couldn't have the normal oven and the microwave on at the same time. (Mind you, it's just a matter of thinking what you have on at any given time). I remember the old fuses you had to change by hand, and I also had to change the box in the house I bought in Penistone.

  4. It's odd to answer questions whilst listening to songs from "West Side Story". Most peculiar.

Yeah, I don't recall that word from the original! :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
