Q5)Finally … ? James Pratt and John Smith were hanged on 27th November, 1835. They were the last two people hanged for which crime: sodomy, barratry or bribery?
The next ten question set is on 30th November, 2024.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum! (Did I tell you the cat was licking my ear, last night?)
† Yeah, K-pop’s getting popular, Olga: apparently, it’s worth a mint. And yes, Chris Rea played a blinder, there! It’s one hell of a tune! (So’s today’s earworm!)
‡ I don’t know that they’d mind, Debbi … so long as nothing illegal’s going on! (The original Groucho’s chock full of showbiz people and media types. Quite what the “serious offence” was, I don’t know!)
§ “Life in a Northern Town” was the Dream Academy’s only hit. I grant, the band was a little too posh for my taste: and granted, they were a one-hit wonder … but the song is a beautiful tune. It’s also sampled in Dario G’s “Sunchyme”: possibly one of the most joyous pieces of music I’ve heard.
Q6) Norman Wisdom Yes, I remember that song as well. It is difficult to know why some comedians or actors become popular in countries that have nothing to do with their own. I remember Benny Hill was very popular here when I was a child (talk about inappropriate content), but then the life of comedians here in Franco times was difficult, because there were so many things you weren't allowed to talk about...
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
† Your Facebook, X/Twitter, Blogger, Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn profile are acceptable. I also like seeing folks webpages.
I don’t know if it’ll show up at your end, Debbi: but the Eno album I bought was Music for Installations.
ReplyDeleteIt’s on the UK branch of Spotify, here …

Fascinating about Norman Wisdom. One country's comic has-been is another one's comic savior? :)

This is what I like about the internet.
Not bad for a Thursday. :)
I was just reading about Norman Wisdom and Charlie Chaplin. Both were raised in extreme poverty.
ReplyDeleteSo was John Lydon. Now, I want to read his autobiography, "Rotten". :)
Still not bad for a Thursday. :)
