Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th November 2024.

4th November, 2024.

Right … it’s Monday … and I’m up, early.

Yet again, I’ll be heading for Brentwood High Street, to go to my weight management class.

Hopefully, I’ll have lost some weight: and carried on the loss from the last two weeks.

Here’s hoping.

~≈🧺≈~

Whilst I’m in town … ?

I can visit my favourite washing-machine shop!

I either need a repair: which I believe will cost.

Or a new washing machine.

Which will cost: but may or may not cost as much as the repair.

It might just be cheaper to get a new machine … …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        4th November, 1956, saw the USSR invade where: Hungary, East Germany or Poland?

Q2)        4th November is the feast day of Saint Emeric of Hungary.   Traditionally, he’s believed to have been killed, hunting what: a boar, a fox or a stag?

Q3)        La Belle Otero was born on 4th November, 1868.   She was a noted actress from where: Portugal, Spain or San Marino?

Q4)        Ken Hensley died on 4th November, 2020.   He was a member of which band: Iron Maiden, Uriah Heep or Black Sabbath?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The last armed uprising in one country of the UK, took place on 4th November, 1839.   Where: England, Ireland, Wales or Scotland?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        3rd November is Culture Day in Japan.   It was first marked in which year of the 1940s?
A1)        1948.

Q2)        The All-Japan Kendo is traditionally held on Culture Day.   Kendo is a type of what: sword-fighting, wrestling or quarter-staff fighting?
A2)        Sword-fighting.   (The sport uses traditional bamboo swords.)

Q3)        The day will see many Japanese schools holding a culture … what?
A3)        A Culture festival.

Q4)        Some people will be celebrating the day: by wearing which Japanese ‘K’?
A4)        A kimono.   (Apparently, it’s worn with the left side wrapped over the right. Unless the person wearing it is deceased.   I think I’d have problems, going by the way I wear a dressing gown … )

Q5)        Finally … ?   Miso is a traditional Japanese what: soup, wine or noodle?
A5)        Soup.
Here’s a thought …
“Women have one mission in life: to be beautiful. When one gets old, one must learn how to break mirrors.”
La Belle Otero, 4 November 1868 – 10 April 1965.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

The placing of that photocopier definitely sounds unwise, Olga.   Granted, people are careful in office kitchens: but even so, that sounds like an accident waiting to happen.
As do the batteries in electric vehicles.   I hope they ARE protected: floods are becoming more common.
The washing machine … is my own damn fault: but, yes, having the PCB, the motherboard, at the top of the machine seems wise.   But … ?   I’m assuming it’s at the bottom as the water inlets are at the top of the machine: that keeps them as far apart as possible.
A bull show, Olga?   That’s not the first phrase that springs to mind, about governments!   Either way — and I say this, knowing how you feel about the Spanish monarchy — I was mildly impressed with the King: he made an effort to visit an (understandably) angry mob.
Whatever else, happens, though … ?   I can only hope this leads to improvements on the weather defence front!

Did you mean the Portsmouth Symphonia, Debbi … or the Portsmouth Sinphonia?   I’ve heard of the latter.   You’re only allowed to join if you’ve failed your music exams …

  1. Q1) Hungary

    Q2) a boar

Q3) Spain (I remember a series about her, where Ángela Molina played the character, but it seems there have been a few movies, and a more recent TV series. An interesting woman).

    Q4) Uriah Heep

    Q5) Wales
We've had several red alerts this morning and it's been raining buckets, here in the city and in nearby towns and cities as well. There have been local floods and roads badly affected, but, it is looking better now. I was at Jordi's and, they definitely sent the alerts by phone. (Mine never goes off because I use a VPN in another country, that might be good for some things but not others...)
Well, I'm still not keen on the royal family (any royal family). Their daughter is doing military training now... Yes, perhaps they could all go there to help... They behaved better than the two presidents (after all, the queen was a journalist and from an anti-monarchic family), although there was a lot of people saying that going there just meant work was stopped and it was all to look good on the pictures, rather than to do anything to help. (It occurs to me that they could donate the huge amounts of money they get paid, or parts of it, to the Red Cross or other associations collecting funds. I know Queen Mother, Sofia, has given some money. Perhaps they have or they will, but that would be more useful, for sure.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
