Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-12-2024 — Bhutan

17th December, 2024: Bhutan.

You know, I was going to tell you I’ve started reading Neonomicon: a work by writer Alan Moore, and artist Jacen Burrows.

It looks suitably hard-boiled: and would possibly grab the attention of Old Peculiar regular, Debbi Mack.

I was going to tell you that a neighbour had popped in on Sunday evening: and an interesting evening was had.

Which would possibly get me a look from Olga Núñez Miret, and my mother, the other regulars, here.

Instead … ?
  • I’m going to tell you I have a working boiler thermostat: after I manfully, and wonderfully, replaced the thing’s batteries.
  • I’m going to tell you I’ve got the electric fan heater on.
  • I’ve got lots of steam in my flat.
Because?

I’m boiling lots of water for a bath: as my boiler’s packed up!

I’ve got an emergency repair on order.

Which should — apparently — be with me ‘within twenty-four hours’.

Ho-bloody-hum!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Olga‡ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        17th December is the National Day of Bhutan.   The day is held to honour the country’s first modern what: king, prime minister or president?

A1)        Wales.

Q2)        How many nations played in the Home Nations Championship: two, three or four?

A3)        England.

Q4)        The teams in this tournament were playing what: Rugby Union, Rugby League or Rugby Sevens?

Here’s a thought …
“The first time a separate Kingdom of Bhutan appeared on a western map, it did so under its local name ‘Broukpa’.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Bhutan.
And a song …

The next large question set is on the 31st of December.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        Well … history certainly get’s rewritten, Debbi!   I *think* there was a bit of fuss when someone changed a quote of Neil Armstrong’s to “… one giant leap for humanity”!
Oh, I’ve picked up a copy of Moore and Burrow’s Neonomicom: it might be up your street …

Yep: mine’s died this morning, Olga: after two days worth of re-setting!   And load knows how many times. this morning.   Arrgh!

I hope they keep to their promises. Wouldn't they install an electric shower for you? I loved it, and it saved me from major problems when my boiler failed. (They aren't allowed here, but I miss them). I also had a working gas fire, although I rarely used it.

Please make all your answers this short. It'll make the 10 questions so much easier. :)

Don't mind me. I'm not here to tell you how to blog. In fact, I think your approach is genius. Look at me. I'm still at it. :)

Good luck with all that boiler stuff. And congrats on your latest weigh-in. Keep exercising! :)

One of these days, I want to do a signing at Waterstones. Just to say I did it. :) Like climbing Mount Everest. Because it's there.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
