Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-1-2024 — The Death of Winston Churchill.

24th January, 2025: Sir Winston Churchill.

You know … it’s a Friday …

You’d worked that out!

And?

Frankly, the country’s being hit by Storm Éowyn: with Red weather warnings for Scotland, Northern England, and the island of Ireland.

I’m glad I don’t live in those parts of the UK.

But very aware it’s looking breezy out!

Being careful out is going to be a good idea!

~≈⛈️≈~

As a minor point … ?

I notice the storm is called Éowyn.

Why?

I don’t know.

But I’m wondering if it’s named for Éowyn: one of the few female characters in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

It’s a shame they didn’t think of calling it ‘Gandalf’.

Naming a storm after a fictional character occasionally referred to as Stormcrow seems appropriate.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        24th January saw the death of Winston Churchill.   In which year of the 1960s?

Q2)        What was the most senior position Sir Winston held in the UK’s government?

Q3)        He was born in which year of the 1870s?

Q4)        His was the last State Funeral in the UK … until whose?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Sir Winston was buried at Saint Martin’s Church in Bladon.   Where is Bladon: Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire or Essex?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The last signal from Pioneer 10 was detected on 23rd January.   Of which year: 2001, 2003 or 2005?
A1)        2003.

Q2)        Northwestern Air Flight 738 crashed on 23rd January, 2024.   In which North American country?
A2)        Canada.

Q3)        Frank Farian died on 23rd January, 2024.   He produced which 1970s disco band?
A3)        Boney M.   (Farian voiced the parts supposedly sung by Bobby Farrell, Bony M’s one male member: and was also the man behind Milli Vanilla.)

Q4)        President Richard Nixon announced there was “… peace with honour” on 23rd January, 1973.   Peace, where: Vietnam, Korea or Cambodia?
A4)        Vietnam.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Union of Utrecht was formed with an agreement: one signed on 23rd January, 1579.   The city of Utrecht is in which modern country?
A5)        The Netherlands.
Here’s a thought …
“I am ready to meet my Maker.   Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.”
Sir Winston Churchill.
And the funeral …

The next ten question set is on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I know exactly what you mean, Olga§.   I’ve an Allen ket set I keep for the same reason: there’s always something it can be used for.

        Hello, Mum!

I think ‘The Great Pretender’ is bang on the money, Debbi¶!   Especially given his media background!

§        Oh, I’ve almost finished that ‘How to buy a computer’ thing, Olga: JUST got the final revisions to do …

Did you ever hear the original Platters version, Debbi?   It’s one hell of a tune!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
