Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-2-2025 — Radio Waves

13th February, 2025: Radio Waves.

Right, then: it’s official Thursday … and … ?

I’m due a repair man: to fix the cupboard doors, under the kitchen sink.

Hopefully?

He’s quick!

Yesterday … ?

I had a video appointment with my Job centre case worker.

Which went well enough.

My one big worry about the thing … ?

Was simply the technology: would it work … ?

It did … thankfully.

So that means I can have the next meetings by video.

Which certainly helps the knees … !

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        13th February is World Radio Day.   If your computer is connected to a router with a radio signal, that radio signal is the Wi … what?

Q2)        Bluetooth is a short-range radio system that can connect things over short ranges.   It’s named after a king of where: Norway, Sweden or Denmark?

Q3)        The ‘AM’ in AM radio stands for Amplitude what?

Q4)        The ‘FM’ in FM radio stands for what modulation?

Q5)        Finally … ?   In the UK, digital radio stations are broadcast under the label, ‘DAB’.   In other words, as Digital Audio what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        A re-recording of a song called “Love Story”, was released on 12th February, 2021. By whom: CharliXCX, Beyonce or Taylor Swift?
A1)        Taylor Swift.   (Swift was in a dispute with her original record label: who owned the master tapes, and refusing to release her material.   Her solution was to re-record the material.)

Q2)        Actress, Annette Crosbie, was born: on 12th February, 1930.   Who did she voice in the 1978 version of The Lord of the Rings: Galadriel, Gollum or Frodo?
A2)        Galadriel.   (Crosbie is the only female voice artist in the film: Galadriel the only female character.   The film also has John Hurt voicing Aragorn, and Anthony Daniels — C3-PO — as Legolas.)

Q3)        Franco Zeffirelli was born on 12th February, 1923.   The Zeffirelli-directed Tea with Mussolini, was released in which year of the 1990s?
A3)        1999.

Q4)        Joe Don Baker was born on 12th February, 1936.   He played Darius Jedburgh in which BBC thriller: The Dark Side of the Sun, Edge of Darkness or First Amongst Equals?
A4)        Edge of Darkness.   (You can find my video reviews, here.   The video quality’s improved.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Maud Adams was born on 12th February, 1945. She played Andrea Anders: in which James Bond film?
A5)        The Man With the Golden Gun.   (Maud is one of only three actresses to have played two separate Bond girls: the other was Octopussy, in Octopussy.   The Man With the Golden Gun see Herve Villachaise as Nik Nak.   Damned if I know where I’ve heard that, before.)
Here’s a thought …
“Radio broadcasting is the broadcasting of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience.”
From the Wikipedia entry on radio broadcasting …
And a song …

The next ten question set is on 19th February: it’s about EastEnders.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        It behaved well, Olga!   Although I’ll happily admit, I spent yesterday morning going through settings.   Just to make sure!

        Hello, Mum!

Yeah, those underwater fights scenes could drag, Debbi!   Apparently, they were a pig to film.   Large tanks of water, plus studio lights, usually gets you a lot of algae … !
I still think, though, that one of the funniest Bond scenes?   Is where Daniel Craig’s version of Bond meets Q for the first time … !

I'm pleased things went well. It's wise to try things beforehand, and even if one has used something before, sometimes the platform has changed. I remember last time I joined a zoom lecture, it looked quite different from when I was doing my course, so it is best not to be overconfindent and always check.
I hope you don't have to wait too long and they manage to sort the issue.
I've been waiting for a parcel that should have arrived on Tuesday. Thankfully, I asked for it to be delivered to an Amazon Locker, otherwise...

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
