Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th August, 2025.

12th August, 2025: the day before Left-hander’s Day.

Right … it’s officially official: it’s the day before Left Hander’s Day.

So … ?

I’m hoping to people will want to have a go at tomorrow’s Teaser.

And encourage anyone who knows a lefty to give them a hug: and, possibly, a pair of left handed scissors.

Left-handed scissors, and left handed rulers, are handy …

I have to confess: I’ve been watching AppleTV’s Foundation series: as the third series is out.

I don’t know how close the series is to it’s source text.

But?

It’s an interesting watch: and and beautiful to look at.

The design work is incredible!

It’s official: the new phone has been delivered!

Turning up, yesterday, about five minutes before I was due to head out for my weight management meeting.

I’ve gained weight: which I wasn’t expecting.

But have set up my new gadget: an Oppo A40 phone.

Granted, the volume buttons are on the wrong side: they’re used to take screen shots, as well as control the volume, so that makes taking screenshots awkward.

I had trouble using gesture control, so switched back to button control.

On the upside?

The thing’s got a more recent version of the operating system, and cameras that are on a par, if not better, than my older phone’s.

And the actual transfer of data — photos, apps, contact details — from old phone to new went relatively well.

Given how anxious I felt about it’s delivery, and how jittery I felt setting it up?

It’s gone relatively well.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s question, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        12th August is International Youth Day.   According to whom: the Roman Catholic Church, the United Nations or the European Union?

Q2)        In the UK, 12th August is what’s called the ‘Glorious Twelfth’.   It’s the start of the what-hunting season: grouse hunting, duck hunting to moose hunting?

Q3)        12th August is the feast day of Saint Euplius of Catania.   Where is Catania: Sicily, Tuscany or Umbria?

Q4)        Una Stubbs died on 12th August, 2021.   She played Mrs Hudson in which series: The Strange World of Gurney Slade, Worzel Gummidge or Sherlock?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Youtuber, Dream, was born on 12th August, 1999.   He usually makes content about what: Eve Online, Minecraft or Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Ian McDiarmid was born on 11th August, 1944.   Who did he play in the Star Wars franchise: the Mandalorian, Emperor Palpatine or Darth Maul?
A1)        Emperor Palpatine.

Q2)        11th August is the UN sponsored Steel Pan Day.   Steel pan drums have their origins, where: Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica or Saint Lucia?
A2)        Trinidad and Tobago.   (I’ll have to think about a set for that one … )

Q3)        11th August is Mountain Day.   Where: Japan, China or Thailand?
A3)        Japan.

Q4)        11th August is the feast day os of Saint Gaugericus.   He’s the patron saint of where: Bree, Bruges or Brussels?
A4)        Brussels.

Q5)        Finally … ?   11th August is Independence Day in Chad.   It marks the country’s independence from where: the UK, France or Germany?
A5)        France.
Here’s a thought …

“Never let someone tell you something you genuinely enjoy is weird.   They’re the weird ones for caring so much about what you enjoy.”
Dream, born 12th August, 1999.

A song …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set is the Left-hander’s day: tomorrow.

Please mention the day to left handers you meet.

Comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I was definitely relieved, Olga: and the actual setup went well enough.   A lot better that it would’ve done with older, 3g, technology.   (One of my neighbours still has an old 3g phone.   I’ve been teasing him for years, about it … )
Hmmm … would an umbrella be help for the hospital trip?   I’ve seen a few of the neighbours using them, in the recent heatwaves …

        Hello, Mum!

‡        Good luck finding an editor, Debbi: and finishing the movie!   (I’ve left a reply for you: here … )

Good on the phone. I must say mine is quite old now, but I don't care for phones, the only problem being that they don't update the operating system any longer. I've read there are ways to do it, but it sounds complicated and not too safe...

I think we talked about the umbrellas before. There are special umbrellas that give some protection against UV rays, it seems. Usual umbrellas do very little, and because my mother uses a walking stick, it gets a bit complicated to carry two things at the same time. (I am taller than her, so carrying the umbrella for her doesn't usually work too well). I must check the umbrellas, though, but I haven't seen them advertised as such. (They have double material, different inside and outside, and the woman who was telling us about it said that the best ones can protect against about 50% of the UV rays).

  3. I was probably mixing him up with Remington Steele. :)

Doesn't look a bit like Pierce Brosnan, though.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
