The Estonian government has invoked Article Four of the North Atlantic Treaty.
The one that calls a NATO council meeting: to trigger Article Five of the Treaty.
The article that says — if I’ve understood it correctly — an attack on one NATO member is an attack on all members, and sees us declaring war on the invading country.
I’ve lived my live in a country that’s not been involved in major military action since the Gulf War.
I’d hate to see Britain — or our NATO allies — involved in one now.
† You’re looking very dignified in those pictures, Olga: you wear it well, I think. What is the location, out of curiosity? It looks like the interior of a church. (I’m tempted to put the photos of you — and possibly Debbi if there are any from the conference she was at — through Image Playground. But The really spectacular results, are a result of putting the images through ChatGPT: and I’d rather not do that without permission.)
I’ve never written a reference in my life: although I don’t know if I should be relieved or grateful about that.
I do know one of the regulars at a pub I worked in, Rob, had an interview with MI6. Apparently, the way the lights are laid out in Vauxhall Cross was interesting: they were done so no shadows were cast through the windows, and nobody could see in. (Rob told me he didn’t get the job. But he agreed with me: when I said “Rob, you’d say that if you did get the gig. Spies don’t advertise!”)
‡ It was a room full of fans, Debbi? I’m impressed!
Did I mention that one term for a Terry Pratchett fan is ‘a Kevin’? I think I have: but … the story I heard was that a critic described Discworld fans as fourteen year-old boys called Kevin. Not long afterwards, Sir Terry told this story at a convention: and various audience members stood up, one after the other, and “I’m Kevin”. “No, I’m Kevin!” “I’m Kevin: and so’s my wife!”
Apparently, Sir Terry also got told — by various teachers — that if he could get fourteen year old boys, reading, he should be congratulated.
Q5) Bobby Riggs No, the building is la Seu del Districte de Sants-Montjuïc, basically the seat of the local government (of the district, rather than the whole city). You can find a lot of pics of the outside here, and if you check under "related posts" there are more pictures of the inside of the building. It is fascinating, part of the modernist movement, like Gaudí's work (and quite a few other Catalan architects of the times). https://modernismobarcelona.com/ca/lugares/seu-del-districte-sants-montjuic/ Apart from the business side of things, they have events like this one, and also weddings and exhibitions there sometimes.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
