Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-10-2025 — Louisiana Purchased.

20th October, 2025: Louisiana Purchased.

Right … my innards seem to be recovering …

But … ?

I’m very aware the cramps I suffer with do take a while to fade: so, hopefully?

I’ll have recovered enough to head for my weight management class, today.

The one upside to the situation … ?

I’ve had a new set of Venetian blinds sitting around for a while: that I intended to use as replacements for the set over the back window.

I finally managed to install those, yesterday: in a desperate effort to distract myself from how my innards were behaving.

The fact I also cleaned my food bin … ?

Was possibly a bonus … !

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The US Senate approved the Louisiana Purchase.   On 20th October of which year: 1801, 1802 or 1803?

Q2)        Acquiring the land had been a goal of which US president: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson or James Madison?

Q3)        The Purchase saw the US buying North American land: from what’s now which European country?

Q4)        The land purchased had been part of New … where?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Purchase included the parts of Louisiana, west of what: the Amazon, the Thames or the Mississippi?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Actor, Bernard Hepton, was born on 19th October, 1925.   He played Pallas in which TV series: Children of the Stones, I, Claudius or Crown Court?
A1)        I, Claudius.

Q2)        Michael Gambon was born on 19th October, 1940.   He played Philip E. Marlow: in which series?
A2)        The Singing Detective.

Q3)        Streptomycin was first isolated on 19th October, 1943.   It’s used to treat which disease: syphilis, tuberculosis or whooping cough?
A3)        Tuberculosis.

Q4)        Philip Pullman was born on 19th October, 1946.   He penned the trilogy collectively called His Darkwhat?
A4)        His Dark Materials.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The body of Hanns-Martin Schleyer was found on 19th October, 1977.   He’d been kidnapped by whom: the Baader Meinhof Gang, the Stern Gang or the IRA?
A5)        The Baader-Meinhof Gang: also known as the Red Army Faction.
Here’s a thought …
“The western borders of the purchase were later settled by the 1819 Adams–Onís Treaty with Spain, while the northern borders of the purchase were adjusted by the Treaty of 1818 with the British.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the Purchase.
A song …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set is on 24th October: it’s about Zambia.

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Where possible, we avoid writing these questions with AI.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

I know I’ve just looked up Louis Vuitton on Designer Exchange, Olga.   It’s got one of their handbags for £1, 400.   I dread to think what the suitcases are like!   But you should see what one of the coats is going for.
What were you saying about Apple’s prices?

‡        I know the world’s watching the Middle-East, too, Debbi.   What was the president saying about ‘eternal peace’ … ?

I hope the weight management session went well, and, more importantly, you feel better. And, well done on the Venetian blind.
Yes, jackets can fetch a good price, and it also depends on the material and the label. And, of course, fur jackets might not be fashionable or correct these days, but they can cost and arm and a leg.
I was trying to see how much an actual trunk or other big travelling goods from Vuitton cost (modern ones. Antiques... Well....) and they don't even mention the price. You have to call them to talk about it...
They have a section in Christie's and the most expensive seems to have fetched over 93000 pounds.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
