I’m reminded of something my Aunty Bella used to do, at this time of year.
She use to collect empty pots: empty film roll pots, the ones you’d keep still camera film, in … and fill them with pound coins she could give away as Christmas gifts.
She’s usually wrap them in Christmas paper: so the pots would resemble crackers.
The things would usually only have £10 or so in them: depending on what coins she put in.
But they were handy amounts of cash, amounts that could, if nothing else, be used to do some light shopping.
They were stocking fillers, in other words.
What struck me, the last time I was in the chemists?
Was that the pots that held the test strips were a similar size to the film roll pots.
And that Christmas is closer than we imagine.
Thank you, Aunty Bella …

Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Irene ‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1)1st October is the International Day of the Older Persons. According to whom: the European Union, the United Nations or the International Criminal Court?
†Yes, it went well enough, Olga. Although I’ve been lumbered with another event, and the associated bus fare. Ho hum … !
Their British soul … ? Hmmm … !
Ruth said “Thank You”, by the way. How ARE you with chocolate cake? I think she had a bit, left over … !
‡ Morning, Irene: how IS the day … ?
§ The text for the essay is here, Debbi: it’s a fascinating read. Oh, and there’s an online Gerry Anderson store, one that does the Thunderbirds bluray box sets.
The price is in sterling, I don’t know if they ship to the UK, and I believe they’d be region-locked. You MAY be able to buy copies and rip them: given the right kit. (A quick check tells me the price in sterling is roughly equivalent to $120. I’ve ALSO looked the box set up on Amazon. It’s listed as being multi-region: so, if you did buy it, it would play in any kit you had there. Given the right software …)
Q5) Canterbury I hope the session is worth it, although I know it's always a pain to try to get wherever and back. Not sure why, but the first video wasn't showing (it might be a region thing). The idea of giving the money... Not bad. Nowadays you hardly see people paying for anything in cash. Even for a few pennies, they pay by card. Did I ever tell you my friend Lourdes once got a watermelon wrapped in gift paper and with a bow as a present? From her aunt. It seems she was quite happy with it. (To be fair, Lourdes is an only child, and her aunt had no children, so she ended up with her apartment when she died, and they were quite close, as her aunt lived in the same building as her when she was a child).
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.

IDK. I'm holding out for a full set of The Avengers, in living colour, with Mrs. Peel. :)
ReplyDeleteI think we have all of Danger Man. It's been a while.
I do have all 17 of The Prisoner episodes.
