Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-10-2025 — The Agreement

30th October, 2025: GATT.

As I write?

A nurse is pushing a trolley around my GP’s surgery: getting ready to stick a needle in my arm, this afternoon.

Yep.

It’s that time of year, again: when those of us who are considered vulnerable get ’flu vaccinations!

Quite when I’ll get offered the COVID one, I don’t know …

~≈💉≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade was signed on 30th October.   Of which year of the 1940s?

Q2)        It was signed in which Swiss city: Zurich, Geneva or Basel?

Q3)        It went into force on 1st January.   Of which year of the 1940s?

Q4)        How many nations signed the original agreement: twenty-one, twenty-two or twenty-three?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Agreement was replaced in 1995.   By what: the WTO, the WHO or the EU?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        29th October is Coronation Day.   Where: the UK, Cambodia or Japan?
A1)        Cambodia.

Q2)        A cyclone struck Orissa on 29th October, 1999.   Where is Orissa: India, China or Thailand?
A2)        India.   (It’s now called Odisha.)

Q3)        The One Child Policy ended on 29th October, 2015.   The policy was active in which country: Brazil, Russia, India or China?
A3)        China.

Q4)        NASA launched the STS-95 mission on 29th October, 1998.   Which former US senator was the mission’s oldest crewman?
A4)        John Glenn.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Joseph Pulitzer died on 29th October, 1911.   The Prizes named for him are awarded for what: writing, TV shows or physics?
A5)        Writing.
Here’s a thought …
“According to its preamble, [the Agreement’s] purpose was the ‘substantial reduction of tariffs and other trade barriers and the elimination of preferences, on a reciprocal and mutually advantageous basis’”.
From what Wikipedia entry open the Agreement.
A documentary …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set is on tomorrow: it’s about “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Where possible, AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I think the last one closed a few years ago, Olga: which is a shame, my landlord’s electricians would use it for small parts.   The place did fuseboxes, from what I remember …

        Hello, Mum!

Yeah, I did, didn’t I, Debbi?   One of these days, my brain will start functioning …

It's a shame indeed. They are very handy for many things. I hope the vaccine goes well. I got both of them at the same time, when I went to accompany my mother, and one of my arms hurt a couple of days or so, although I didn't feel anything else.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
