Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-10-2025 — The US Open.

4th October, 2025: the US Open.

Good god, there’s a woman in charge!

Slightly more respectfully?

Bishop Sarah Mullally has been named as the one hundred and sixth Archbishop of Canterbury: the first woman to be appointed to the role.

That’s welcome.

And somewhat unsurprising.

There’s been talk of a female being appointed for many years: but?

The bishop, herself, had some serious leadership roles when she was a nurse.

Much as her predecessor, Justin Welby, was a senior oil executive, and his predecessor, Rowan Williams, was the Archbishop of Wales.

The Church has, again, named someone with high level, organisational skills.

So, to me?

Her being named is no surprise: as she had the needed management skills.

What is also unsurprising?

There’s been complaints about her appointment≤ from more conservative Anglian groups, already.

She also does not support assisted dying: I disagree with her position.

I don’t like the idea, either: but feel it needs to be available, and enshrined in UK law.

She’s going to be installed in March: we’ll have to see happens …

As a quick, other thought … ?

Would you mind hitting the like button on a video?

Or the share button?

Yep: that’s Jude’s newest video … !

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The first US Open was held on 4th October.   Of which year of the 1890s?

Q2)        The event was held at Newport Country Club in Newport.   Club, town and event were held in which IUS state?

Q3)        The winner was Horace Rawlins.   Rawlins was from which country of the UK?

Q4)        The modern US Open is one of four whats: majors, minors or modes?

Q5)        Finally … ?   If you competing in the US Open, what sport are you playing?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        3rd October, 2024, saw Bengali, Assamese, Marathi, Pali and Prakrit given Classical Language Status.   By which country: China, India or Brazil?
A1)        India.

Q2)        How many classical languages does that country have: nine, ten or eleven?
A2)        Eleven.

Q3)        Name one of the other languages.
A3)        Tamil, Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam or Odia.

Q4)        How many languages has the country recognised: twenty, twenty-one or twenty-two?
A4)        Twenty-two.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Name either on of the country’s two most widely spoken languages.
A5)        Hindi or English.
Here’s a thought …

“As of 2024, the U.S. Open awards a $21.5 million purse, the largest of all four major championships.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the US Open.

And a Bing Crosby tune …

The next ten question set is on 24th October: it’s about Zambia

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

There were certainly easier ways, Olga: the attacker tried running people over, then started stabbing people … oy … !
Investigating these cases is always difficult, isn’t it?   Whether the attacker was alive or dead, it’s going to take the police a long time to figure out why he was doing it.   It’ll take an equally long time for a coroner’s report.   The sooner those can be done, the better: the victims deserve to know.
Oh … court cases … !   The last time I remember the UK’s government took someone to court?   Was when Peter Wright’s Spycatcher was published.   Sales went through the roof …
        Vox sound trigger happy …
        As for ID … ?   It’s distinctly messy … !

‡        Cheers, Debbi, it’s nice to hear your support.   The whole ID thing is a mess.   The basic idea — you should have some sort of centralised ID — is ok.   But the implementation has to be good, as well, and Sir Keir and company, has made a dog’s dinner out of it.   They’ve not explained how people with no smart phones are supposed to have it: nor how they can avoid getting the databases, the databases with out information on them, hacked.   There’s a lot of that happening, recently.
        It’s the hair, isn’t it, Debbi … ?

Yes, indeed. It sounds as if one of the people who died were killed by the police, as the attacker didn't have a gun, and there is an injured victim by shots as well. The whole operation sounds like a mess...
I am going on one of my early morning walks tomorrow, and then I'm supposed to be covering an event for the radio, although it is an open-air thing and we have rain forecast, so one never knows...

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
