Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th October 2026.

29th October, 2026.

I think I’m having fun with these intro reels.

At least … having fun with the fact some are doing well on Instagram.

I can only hope today’s as well …

On other fronts?

John Healey, the UK’s finance minister, gave his Budget speech, yesterday: announcing the Government’s financial plans for the coming year.

The one thing that caught my eye?

Was an announcement that the Government would be issuing a one-off, £100 entry payment for those of us in houses in Council Tax bands A to D.

I’d qualify: as my flat’s in Band B.

It’s a nice gesture: even if it is just a one off.

My only hope?

Is that it comes through as quickly as possible.

The sooner that cash is in my bank, the quicker I can put it onto my meter … !

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, James† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four and James on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        29th October is the feast day of the incredibly self-obsessed Saint Narcissus of Jerusalem.   He’s usually depicted holding a blossoming what: rose, petunia or thistle?

Q2)        The first public, high definition TV broadcasts started on 29th October, 1998.   Where: the USA, Canada or Mexico?

Q3)        According to the UN, 29th October is the International Day of Care and what?

Q4)        The London Pageant took place on 1621, took place on 29th October, 1621.   It celebrated Edward Barkham’s installation as what: Lord Mayor of London, Archbishop of Westminster or King?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Sixty-two people were killed on 29th October, 2005.   Where: Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Duke of York and Albany’s Maritime Regiment of Foot was founded on 28th October, 1664.   The regiment is now known as what: the Special Air Service, the Special Boat Service or the Royal Marines?
A1)        The Royal Marines.

Q2)        The Regiment is part of the UK’s what: the Army, Royal Airforce or Royal Navy?
A2)        The Royal Navy.   (They’re one of five such fighting forces.)

Q3)        The Duke who founded the regiment later became James 2nd of where: England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales?
A3)        England.   (He was James 7th of Scotland.)

Q4)        Who’s the Regiment’s current overall head?
A4)        King Charles. 3rd.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The regiment’s badge includes their motto: “Per Mare Per Terram”.   It’s in which language?
A5)        Latin.
Here’s a thought …
“I wished from my soul that the Union was broke and that we might give them another battle of Bannockburn.”
James Boswell, 29 October 1740 — 19 May 1795.
And a Moody Blues song with vocals from Denny Laine …

The next ten question sets are on 8th, 10th, 19th and the 25th November: they’re aboutMonty Python’s Life of Brian, All Quiet on the Western Front, Quatermass and the Pit and Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (James was James 2nd of England, Mum, rather than England, Ireland, and Wales — he was James 7th of Scotland.)

†        Morning, James!   The King James in yesterday’s third question was James 2nd of England and James 7th of Scotland.   The correct answers for questions four and five were Charles 3rd and Latin.   (The current King, Charles 3rd, is the UK’s Commander in Chief of Britain’s armed forces.)
I look forward to seeing the link, James: I think you missed it, this time!

‡        Yep: that looks like a block of council flats, Debbi!   Bar the pillars at the front: you don’t see those often.   They’d be parallel to what we have, here.   (I’m in a Housing Association place: it’s social housing, but provided by a non-profit organisation, rather than a local authority.   It and Astoria House are both in the Projects, if I’ve understood the term, correctly.)

I love it when people comment. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively adult. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

If you can also leave you comments on today’s Teaser Video, that would be good.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
