House of Cards — Series 5: Episodes 1 & 2 (Chapters 53 and 54.)

3rd October, 2017.

Hmmm …

Can I make something of a confession, here?

I’ve had my hours cut, at work.

Which basically means?

That I’m … if not house bound, per se: then definitely not getting out as much as I’d like to.

Even if it IS just for a stroll.

The situation’s discouraging, let’s put it that way.

It is, after all, a blow — however minor — to the confidence.   One not helped by the interview I had last week.

Oh, granted, that’s a good thing to have done.

But — as anyone who’s seriously out of work will tell you — waiting to hear back from a job?

Is very … very … discouraging.

A theoretical upside?

Is that I can — famously — keep myself occupied.

After all, Nik Nak’s Daily Teasers* have been going a while, now.

Although, frankly?

Not having a deadline — I have to get to work —  is slowing me down, there.

I know Douglas Adams said he liked the whooshing sound as they went past …

But … ?

Personally, I sort of like the idea of them …

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, I know I’ve also had time to catch up with the box sets I’ve know seen.

Frankly?   I caught the impressive first three episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, last night.

Which meant that tonight?

I have time for an old friend.

I’ve not caught up with House of Card, or Frank Underwood, for a while.

Episode 1Chapter 53 — introduces us to Frank (Kevin Spacey) Undrwood’s administration: causing uproar in Congress, demanding the House vote through his War on Terror.

And ALSO sees he and Claire attending a rather important funeral.

Episode 2Chapter 54 — Frank organises a lunch for the various state governors: making sure the five who run key swing states get a LOT of attention.

Claire (Robin Wright) finds out an old friend of Franks has gone astray.

Neither of them know anything — in theory — about a rather sever cyber-attack.

Politicians lie, remember?

Now, I have to say, I was a touch concerned: when I heard, last year that House of Cards creator Beau Willimon would be handing the showrunner duties to Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese.

I shouldn’t have.

House of Cards fifth season looks on good form.

Frank Underwood — as distinct from Kevin Spacey — is looking old.

But still good!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
