Saturday 3 August 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd August 2024.

3rd August, 2024.

Right, then … it’s Saturday … !

Which means I’m a step nearer Tuesday’s colonoscopy.

Which … is fun!

I generally don’t approve of far-right politics.

It’s — they’re? — just a little too divisive.

I generally don’t approve of riots, either.

So hearing that — in the wake of the killings in Southport, on Monday — there’s been several riots, organised by various right-wing groups …

Is not something I’m happy about.

Partly … ?

I’m hoping these things don’t reach Brentwood.

We do have a mosque in town: something the rioters seem to have been targeting.

And … ?

I’d hate to see violence, whatever the motivation, on my doorstep.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Many Yazidi people were massacred in Sinjar on 3rd August, 2014: by members of the Islamic State group.   Sinjar, and the Yazidi, were in northern where: Iraq, Iran or Israel?

Q2)        3rd August is Independence Day in Niger.   The country’s on which continent: Africa, Asia or Europe?

Q3)        Britain’s then highest temperature was recorded on 3rd August.   Of which year of the 1990s?

Q4)        The TRS 80 computer was first released on 3rd August, 1977.   By whom: Apple, Tandy or Sinclair Research?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Habib Bourguiba was born on 3rd August, 1903.   He was the first president of which North African country … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        2nd August, 2024, is International Beer Day.   Beer is usually made with what: barley, buckwheat or quinoa?
A1)        Barley.

Q2)        Weissbeer is made with large amounts of what: wheat, maize or rice?
A2)        Wheat.

Q3)        Beer usually contains an alcohol.   Which alcohol: methanol, ethanol or butanol?
A3)        Ethanol.

Q4)        Beer is top-fermented, or bottom-fermented.   What, in other words, is at the top or bottom: yeast, grain, hops or starch?
A4)        Yeast.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Beer in the UK is usually stored in keg. And what else: tubes, casks or yonkers?
A5)        Casks.   (Casks are usually used for what’s called real ale, and have capacities that are multiples of nine.   Keg beer is usually pasteurised: kegs, themselves, are usually eleven, or twenty-two, gallons.)
Here’s a thought …
“I always had a sceptical and slightly morbid caste of mind, so my first response to Humpty Dumpty was ‘Did he fall or was he pushed?’”
P. D. James, 3 August 1920 – 27 November 2014.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

I have to admit, I’m binge watching the thing, Olga: the episodes are both funny, and short!   The older I get, the more appealing that is!
At any rate … ?   I think you’re right, Amy and Bernadette probably as older sisters: that does fit.   (Pointless trivia for you.   Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy, has a neuroscience degree: her doctoral thesis was in “Hypothalamic regulation in relation to maladaptive, obsessive-compulsive, affiliative and satiety behaviours in Prader–Willi syndrome”.   Oh, and she’s left handed … )

Cheers, Debbi: I’ve got that bookmarked for later!
Oh, are you following chap on YouTube called Tharries on YouTube?   He’s interesting: and his latest video covers some interesting territory.

I have read a few articles about Amy, and yes, she sounds amazing. (I think there was some controversy about what the women were paid compared to the men, but I think all of their salaries went up as the show progressed.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
