Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-8-2024 — Burkina Faso

5th August, 2024: Burkina Faso.

It’s official: I’m not up early!

I’ve taken the day off from my weight management class, today: as I’m having to fast, in preparation for a colonscopy, tomorrow.

Fast …

And take what’s called a bowel prep.

Frankly?

With the sedatives and relaxants you have to take, the procedure, itself, is uncomfortable, invasive and not necessarily what I’d call fun.

But?

It’s a lot better than the bowel prep!

Doubleplusungood’ still seems the only word to use, here!

Especially as I need to stay near a bathroom!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Burkina Faso became independent: on 4th August of which year: 1959, 1960 or 1961?

Q2)        From where: the UK, France or Germany?

Q3)        What’s the country’s capital: Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso or Koudougou?

Q4)        Burkina Faso’s currency is the West African CFA … what?

Q5)        Finally … ?   ASEC Koudougou, ASF Yennenga and Salinas FC, are teams from Burkina Faso.   They play what: cricket, football or Rugby League?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        4th August, 1961, saw the birth of Barack Obama: the 44th President of the United States. In which US state?
A1)        Hawaii.

Q2)        4th August is the feast day of Saint Raynerius of Split.   Where is Split: Croatia, Slovenia or Hungary?
A2)        Croatia.

Q3)        4th August, 1693, is the traditional date of the invention of champagne: by a monk called Dom Pérignon.   Champagne is a what: beer, sparkling wine or whisky?
A3)        Sparkling wine.

Q4)        Director, Greta Gerwig, was born: on 4th July, 1983.   She wrote and directed which 2023, Margot Robbie, film?
A4)        Barbie.

Q5)        Finally … ?   4th August, 1704, saw Britain capture where: the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar or the Isle of Dogs?
A5)        Gibraltar.
Here’s a motto …

“Unité–Progrès–Justice”.
“Unity–Progress–Justice”.
Burkina Faso’s motto.

A song …

And an earworm …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (It was Barbie, Mum: “Barbie Girl” is the song!)

It’s a long fight, Olga: at least that’s my thinking!
The funny old thing with Huw Edwards, Olga?   I had to look up Newspeak, when I was writing the intro for today.   The entry reminded me that Winston Smith’s job was to … ah … correct mistakes in Airstrip One’s official records.   Isn’t it scary when you realise Orwell had noticed something … seventy-five years ago?
(Actually, I think the Ancient Egyptians did something similar.   So did the Soviets.   Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised!)

That might change, though, Debbi: I’ve start writing the set for the 21st August.   We’ll have to see!

  3. I think Orwell was way ahead of his time. I also think I was born a bit too early or too late. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
