The Daily Teaser …

Well …

There we go …

We now in the UK have something we’ve not had in a generation or two.

A coalition government.

On the one hand, I’m pleased the party I voted for is getting a few seats in the Cabinet.

But I’m also annoyed about the fact we’re in government with the Tories.

Who I definitely didn’t vote for.

But let’s move on, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s teaser saw Trevor and Kaiju both scoring 6 out of 6, with Trevor putting in some great quotes.

Let’s see how they — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 12th May, 1941, saw the formal presentation of the Z3, world’s first programmable, automated computer. But in which country?

Q2) 12th May, 1994, saw which Labour Party leader die in hospital, after 2 heart attacks?

Q3) While I’m feeling political … 12th May, 1999, saw who named as the first Speaker of the Scottish Parliament?

Q4) 12th May, 1942, saw the birth of which noted polio victim?

Q5) More to the point, was the name of that polio victim’s first band?

Q6) And finally … 14th May, 1959, saw the birth of actor, Ving Rhames: in which 1990 film did he play George?

And here’s yesterday’s questions, along with the answers …

Q1) 11th May, 1997, saw an IBM computer beat chess grand master, Gary Kasparov, in a chess game: but what was the name of the computer?
A1) Deep Blue.

Q2) 11th May, 1820, saw the launch of which ship on rather well known expedition?
A2) The HMS Beagle.

Q3) 11th May, 1987, saw who go on trial for war crimes, in the French Town of Lyon?
A3) Klaus Barbie.

Q4) 11th May, 1971, saw the closure of what was then Britain’s oldest tabloid newspaper: what was it called?
A4) The Daily Sketch.

Q5) 11th May, 1720, saw the birth of a German baron, notorious for tall tales: which German baron … ?
A5) Karl Friedrich Hieronymus, Freiherr von Münchhausen. (Or just plain Baron von Münchhausen.)

Q6) And finally … 11th May, 1988, saw the death of which member of the Cambridge Five groups of spies?
A6) Harold Adrian Russell ‘Kim’ Philby.

Enjoy those, everyone, I’ll catch you later …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
