The Daily Teaser …

Ah HA!!!!!

THERE we go …

That’s the new poster I’ve been talking about … !

And the reason for the overhaul of the general look and feel of the Old Peculiar.

And I’ll be frank, I couldn’t resist doing something vaguely inspired by the Little Black Book Edition of the role-playing-game, Traveller.

I don’t know about you, but I always thought it was a nice piece of very uncluttered design. But that’s just me …

Oh, by the way, I’ve got Yesterday on, in the background: I’m convinced Sir Joseph Bazalgette’s a national hero … !

‹‹‹~›››

At any rate, lets get moving on, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor putting in both his answers — scoring 6 out of 6, in the process — and putting in some great quotes, from both Aldous Huxley, and Carl Gustaf Jüng.

Lets see how he — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we … ?

Here they, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 27th July is National Sleepyhead Day: in which European country?

Q2) 27th July, 1981, saw which British soap achieve record viewing figures, by screening the wedding of two characters … ?

Q3) Name either of those two characters … ?

Q4) 27th July, 1938, saw the birth of E. Gary Gygax: which game is he credited with co-creating … ?

Q5) More to the point, who did he co-create it with … ?

Q6) 27th July also saw the birth — in 1950 — of English actor, Simon Jones: in which Terry Gilliam film did he have a small part as a zoologist … ?

Q7) Jones also — famously, and in many of its versions — played which character in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?

Q8) And finally … 27th July, 1944, saw the birth of comedian, actor, and DJ, Tony Capstick: name either of the two tracks that made part of the double-A side that was his only hit, in 1981.

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 26th July, 1878, saw which notorious outlaw and poet made his last clean getaway, after stealing a Wells Fargo strongbox … ?

Q2) 26th July, 1788, saw the 11th state of the USA become the 11th state of the USA, by ratify what?
A2) The US Constitution.

Q3) More to the point, which state was it … ?
A3) New York.

Q4) 26th July, 1952, saw the death of which Argentine political figure … ?
A4) Eva Perón; Evita, in other words.

Q5) 26th July, 1739, saw the birth of the fourth Vice-president of the USA: what what his name … ?

A5) Believe it or not, George Clinton. (Now, before Kaiju get’s his groove on, and I start eyeballing stuff about cigars … )

Q6) And finally … Which public holiday is it, in Cuba … ?

A6) The Day of the National Rebellion: which commemorates the beginnings of the Castro lead revolution against the Batista Regime.

Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll catch you all, later … !

  1. 1. Nat'l Sleepyhead - Wouldn't that be Disneyland? That's where Sleepy and Grumpy and all the other dwarves live. Or Norway.
    2. Don't you have to be British to know this one? How about Dame Judy Dench and that fellow who isn't Alasdair?
    3. What the heck is this question. Can you rephrase in English? Oh, rawthah!
    4. Sorry. Even if that's wrong, it's right, because with that kind of name, anyone would be sorry.
    5. Um, Dr. Seuss and the Lorax?
    6. Brazil
    7. No fricking idea, but I'm sure it involved a thin mint. I have never seen Dr. Who.
    8. 1981, eh? How about MacArthur Park? I know it's wrong, but have you heard Richard Harris' version? It is so bad it's good.
Gee, hope I beat my personal best of, er, well, one.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
