You know, I’ve been watching, over the past couple of weeks, the BBC documentary about the old
Ottoman Empire.
I’ve got the last episode on, as I write.
And it has to be said, Rageh Omaar’s presenting a series … not revelatory. But certainly very informative.
Especially in his coverage of the man who basically turned what was left of the Empire into what’s now Turkey:
Ataturk.
And it has to be said, the more I learn of the chap … ?
The more I keep thinking of people like Augustus Caesar, Stalin and Mao Zedong.
People who left a footprint on entire countries …
