Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-4-2018: Saint George’s Day.

23rd April, 2018.

Right …

Something I worked out, last night was that my left eyelid has started to work.

Started, I should stress.

Which is good.

A few weeks ago … ?   I managed to go down with Bell’s Palsy: a type of facial paralysis caused by an infection.

On the left hand side of my face, so you know.

So the fact that I’m starting to be able to wink … ?   However imperfectly?

Means I’m recovering.

~≈§≈~

As for prayer … ?

I mentioned, yesterday, that I’d prayed: hard.

Despite being an agnostic.

I’ve been having money problems, recently: and, despite my agnosticism, have found prayer to be … helpful.

It allows me to make the assumption that someone’s listening.

And, even if not listening, taking direct action, or offering advise?

Then, at least, getting my subconscious to grind into gear, to come up with an idea of how to deal with the situation.

Something concerning me, yesterday, and last night, watching Hotel.

Something I can do, today.

I can only hope that the phone call I need to make?

Goes well.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) 23rd April is Saint George’s Day.   He’s the patron saint of England, and of Catalonia, in Spain.   He’s ALSO patron of which other Spanish area: Aragon, Navarre orAndalusia?
Q2) Many in the Eastern Orthodox tradition mark Saint George’s Day on 23rd April — according to the Julian calendar — and on 26th November: again, according to the Julian calendar.   What are either one of the equivalent dates in the Gregorian calendar?
Q3) According to an old Bulgarian tradition, Saint George is the patron saint of whom: shepherds, cowherds or horse wranglers?
Q4) There is a Church of Saint George in the African city of Lalibela.   Church, and city, are in which African country?
Q5) FINALLY … ?   Saint George is the patron saint of Malta: and one other island in the Maltese Peninsular.   WHICH island?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 22nd April, 2000, saw the UK change many what: TV channels, telephone numbers or street addresses?
A1) Phone numbers.   (Many area codes were changed: and phone number lengths were standardised.)
Q2) The Paris Agreement was signed: on 22nd April, 2016.   What is the Agreement supposed to combat: international cybercrime, human trafficking or global warming?
A2) Global warming.
Q3) The USS Nashville captured an enemy warship: on 22nd April, 1898.   During the USA’s war with which country: Spain, the Germany or Mexico?
A3) Spain.
Q4) The Treaty of Zaragoza was signed: on 22nd April, 1529.   Between Spain: and which country?
A4) Portugal.   (It finally — ahem! — settled ownership of the Moluccas, and access to the world’s (then) only source of nutmeg.)
Q5) Finally … 22nd April, 1904, saw the birth of J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the fathers of the atomic bomb.   That bomb was built in Los Alamos, New Mexico: at the what project?
A5) The Manhattan Project.
Here’s a thought …
“I may be uninspiring, but I’ll be damned if I’m an alien!”
George 5th on England, 3 June 1865 – 20 January 1936.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Yeah, I’ve managed to correct the date, Olga: thanking you!   :D   As for prayer … ?   Well, if someone IS listening, I can only hope they … can help.   We’ll have to see!

†        I had noticed, Debbi!   How DID the shoot go, by the way?   I’m still trying to spot any posts you’ve put up about them … !

  1. A1 Aragon
A2 I think that you have got confused between the Gregorian Calendar and the Julian Calendar . Today is April 23rd in the Gregorian Calendar.

I think the Julian date that you are asking for is May 6th

    A3 Farmers and Shepherds
A4 Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
A5 It is not the Maltese Peninsular. It is the Maltese archipelago and the answer is Gozo.

I have been to both Malta and Gozo.

Please try to proof read your quiz. Over the past few weeks I have noticed problems with years and other things. Take more time and get things right and then I may enter more often.

  3. BTW, you want to check out this Crime Cafe interview. The author I interviewed also had Bell's Palsy: http://www.debbimack.com/blog/2018/04/22/s-3-ep-22-a-chat-with-crime-fiction-author-david-swinson/

He writes a great book, too! :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
