Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th May, 2019.

5th May, 2019

You know … that’s been bubbling under for a few days, now.

In the wake of rape cases being dismissed — over contradictory evidence on victim’s phones — a new consent form has been introduced to all of the UK’s police forces.

One that implies a case will not be prosecuted, if the phone isn’t handed over.

I can’t help but be vaguely sympathetic.

I know getting EVERY piece of evidence is vital for justice to be done.

Especially in sensitive case, like rape.

But to hand over one’s phone, however good the cause?

Seems a little bit invasive.

Oh …

Did I mention I’m something of an armchair snooker fan?

I’m something of an armchair snooker fan … so you know.

The reason I mention it?

Is simply that the World Championship final is on: it start’s today, and ends, tomorrow.

This year?   It’s Judd Trump vs veteran, John Higgins.

John won at their last championship meeting.

This could be a re-run of that meeting: which saw Higgins winning.?

OR a total whitewash for Trump.

OR go to a last frame decider.

It has to be said … there’s been a couple of them, this year …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Badwolf†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 5th May is the feast day of Saint Jutta of Kulmsee.   She’s the patron of which historic German region: Prussia, Saxony or Bavaria?
Q2) 5th May, 1260, saw the coronation of Emperor Shizu of Yuan.   How is he better known to us?
Q3) To the Lighthouse was published on 5th May, 1927.   Who wrote To the Lighthouse?
Q4) The first ever US astronaut launched into space: on 5th May, 1961.   Who was he?
Q5) Finally … ?   5th May, 1940, saw the birth of actor, Lance Henriksen.   He played Frank Black in the US series, Millennium.   Millennium was a spin off from which series?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) May 4th is Star Wars Day.   The Star Wars film that’s gets released in December 2019 … is called what?
Q2) Ken Livingston was elected as London’s first Mayor: on 4th May, 2000.   Who’s the current mayor?
A2) Sadiq Khan.
Q3) True or False: 4th May is International Firefighters’ Day.
A3) True.
Q4) 4th May is Bird Day in the US.   What’s the oldest birding watching group in the USA?
A4) The Nuttall Ornithological Club.   It’s roughly 30 years older than the National Audubon Society: which is what I thought the answers was!
Q5) Finally … ?   The first Grammy Awards were held: on 4th May, 1959.   Who are The awards even to: actors, musicians or writers?
A5) Musicians.
Here’s a thought …
“The freedom to do what I wanted to do was much more important to me than the shackles of stardom.”
Michael Palin, born 5 May 1943.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I think, Olga, we can safely say the thing’s going to get dragged across the floor.   Or tangled up with my back pack!   A pen’s easy by comparison.   (Unless it’s a right-handed calligraphy pen.   You can imagine what I think of them!)

†        Morning, Badwolf!   Olga pipped you to the post, yesterday …

‡        I’ll pass that on, Debbi!   (Oh … the Nuttall Ornithological Club … ?   What can I tell you, it came out of no-where … in 1873 … !   Tom Lehrer’s going to be annoyed, he mention’s the Audabon Society in Poisoning Pigeons in the Park.   Actually, that song would go down well in old fashioned music hall!)

  2. Q1) Prussia
    Q2) Kublai Khan
    Q3) Woolf
    Q4) Alan Shepard
Q5) The X-Files (Not sure it can be classed as a spin-off, as it seems that the crossover episode was written well after Millennium had finished and it was a way of trying to tie loose ends, but…)
I hope you enjoy the snooker. I've never been a true fan, but living so close to Sheffield and going to the theatre there I tended to bump into the championships, as they took over much of the city... Also, quite a few of my patients were followers, so I guess I learned a bit by association.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
