Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-9-2020: World Rabies Day

28th September, 2020.

Right …

It’s a Monday morning …

And it’s — metaphorically, at least — nose to the grindstone time.

Back to job-hunting … and the mild depression that comes with minimal cash.

Hey … ho!

~≈ß≈~

I’ve not been paying much attention to the Covid-19 situation.

But I’m very aware that the new NHS Contract tracing app is now available … and been updated, over the weekend.

But … ?

It seems the original version, the one that got tested on the Isle of Wight … ?

Worked on more phones.

Additionally?   The initial version of the new app, released last week?

Gives false positives in a third of cases.

I hope that gets updated.   Again.

I know newly released software will have some bugs in it … but that’s a bit much …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)    28th September is World Rabies Day.   It’s held on the 28th, as that marks which scientist’s birthday?

Q2)    Rabies, itself, is caused by what: a virus or a bacteria?

Q3)    Rabies causes inflammation of what: the lungs, the brain or the liver?

Q4)    In most of the world, we’ll get rabies if we’re bitten by what: dogs, rats or snakes?

Q5)    Finally … ?   Rabies is also known as which ‘H’?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)    The Society of Jesus was formed on 27th September, 1540.   The Society is better know as whom: Opus Dei, the Freemasons or the Jesuits?

A1)    The Jesuits.

Q2)    During World War Two, 27th September, 1940, saw the signing of the Tripartite Pact.   Name any one of the three countries that signed, 27th September.

A2)    Germany, Italy or Japan.

Q3)    27th September, 1896, saw the birth of cricketer, Gilbert Ashton.   Between 1922 and 1936, he played for which county side?

A3)    Worcestershire.

Q4)    The SMART-1 satellite was launched on 27th September, 2003: by the European Space Agency.   It was launched to monitor what: Mars, Earth or the Moon?

A4)    The Moon.

Q5)    Finally … ?   27th September, 1921, saw the birth of film producer, Milton Subotsky: of Amicus Productions fame.   His first horror film, Dr Terror’s House of Horrors, was released, when: 1967, 1966 or 1965?

A5)    1965. The   same year the company produced Dr Who and the Daleks.

Here’s a thought …

“You’re acting like a pack of rabid DOGS!!!”

Lucien, (Michael Sheen), Underworld. (Sheen, and Bill Nigh, were the best things in it.)

And a song

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Good god, Radio Luxembourg did a version, Trevor?   We live and learn!   And it was done by the producers of Dick Barton?   My uncle was a huge fan.

†        I’ll pass that on for you, Olga!   Ruth’ll will appreciate it!   And you’re right, Spitting Image does look good!   It’s on Britbox, though, so I don’t know if it’s getting a Spanish airing.   And, yeah, Putin … I think I’ve seen some of the memes: they’re scandalous!   😂

‡        Doesn’t it just, Debbi?   😂   I think what they’re doing with the Pope might just tickle Rick.   You should’ve seen what they did with John Paul 2nd!

I recently read a book by Paul Tremblay, Survivor Song, a dystopia about a rabies outbreak, pretty good (I’d never read any of his books before) and particularly scary to read right now, and this made me think of it. Worth checking.
I remember the original Spitting Image showed here (I think on RTVE, although it might have been on the Catalan TV), so I'll keep my fingers crossed, although it might take a bit of time to get here. I hope the job chasing goes well. Today they've confirmed two more classes to start mid-October, although the online one looks less likely (they insist on a Native teacher). Perhaps you should look into giving English lessons online! I'm sure you'd be great at it and would enjoy the conversation part of it (probably the rest of it as well).

  3. Really? He hasn't mentioned anything about the Pope. He's so busy agonizing over Trump's idiocy. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
