I’ve got — in theory — a dentist check up, this afternoon.
Although, given the last one was re-arranged for today … ?
And that I’ve not heard whether it’s going ahead … ?
I’m not sure if it’s on, or not!
Here’s hoping.
~≈🦷≈~
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Olga†, Mum‡, Debbi^ and Edithª putting in their answers: with Trevor, Mum and Debbie scoring five out of five, Olga on four and Edith on two.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) Michigan joined the Union: on 26th January of which year: 1837, 1838 or 1839?
Q2) Before joining, Michigan was part of the Michigan … what?
Q3) Michigan is on the shores of Lakes Huron, Superior and Lake what?
Q4) Michigan’s largest city is Detroit. Detroit is known as the what city?
Q5) Which L is Michigan’s capital: Lancaster, Lansing or Lester?
Q6) Battle Creek is in Michigan. Famously, it’s home to which cereal company?
Q7) Traditionally? Michigan’s represented by which ‘W’: a wolf, wolverine or weasel?
Q8) The Battle Creek Bombers, Utica Unicorns and Lansing Lugnuts all play minor league … what?
Q9) The Supremes, the Marvelettes and the Temptations all recorded for which Michigan based label: Virgin, Stiff or Motown?
Q10) Finally … ? Iggy Pop, Ron Ashton, Scott Ashton and Dave Alexander were the original members of which Michigan based band: the Stooges, the Supremes or Bill Haley and the Comets?
Q3) Ten years later? Ten years later, Idi Amin led a successful coup: on 25th January, 1971. It led to his successfully taking control of where: Somalia, Uganda or Ghana?
* It’s looking nasty again, today, Trevor, I know that. Hopefully, I should stay upright, heading into town.
† I think, Olga, that politicians the world over like favourable airtime. Not that that’s guaranteed, but there we go! I’ll keep my fingers crossed, though: that Salvador Illa, and anyone else seeking election runs into the Catalan equivalent of Jeremy Paxman!
(If you can keep you’re fingers crossed on the money front? I think we’re going to need it.)
‡ Hello, Mum!
^ Actually, it’s not to bad, Debbi. Although, granted, I’ve only had it once! With gravy. Anyone Scottish who finds that out, would give me a look!
ª That she does, Edith. (Tipsy trifle? Thanks, Edith, that’s made my morning! :D )
Years ago when an elderly Scottish friend of ours was alive we used to do Burns Night for him. One year Penny made a mistake and bought a Vegetarian Haggis in the local supermarket. Major panic and she had to dash out and get a proper Meat Haggis. John was never a great one for vegetables. To ensure he ate sprouts at Christmas we used to get him to prepare the sprouts. He would say come on you two eat some of the sprouts that I have prepared.
Q1) 1837 Q2) Territory Q3) Erie, I think (it seems that some consider the Lake Huron-Michigan one lake, and others two separate lakes. If they are considered two separate lakes, I guess it would be on the shores of four lakes, rather than three). Q4) The Motor City Q5) Lansing Q6) Kellogg’s Q7) A wolverine Q8) The Battle Creek Bombers, Utica Unicorns and Lansing Lugnuts all play minor league … what? Baseball, but not all play minor league, at least if the article on Wikipedia is right. Only the Lansing Lugnuts. The Battle Creek Bombers play summer collegiate league (Norwood league), and the Utica Unicorns the United Shore Professional Baseball League. I don’t know anything about how baseball is organised and little about the sport, so who knows? Q9) Motown Q10) The Stooges I'll keep my fingers crossed. As per political journalists, etc... The trend here (I guess in most places) is that every tv channel seems to take a specific point of view (political) and choose the angle of the questions accordingly. They can be annoyingly selective. Anyway... I hope the dentist's appointment goes ahead.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
