Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th July, 2021.

15th July, 2021.

Yes, I’ll admit it: I’m something of a news junkie.

Well … I listen to the news.

OK, OK … I have the Today programme on, every morning.

And … ?   They’re reporting on the National Food Strategy report, authored by Henry Dimbleby.

OK: there’s possibly a lot in there.

Including taxing the salt and sugar content of various food and drinks.

That … ?   Could possibly be a good thing.

Although I’m worried that’s going to put the price up of cheap food many of us rely on.

The headline that caught me, though?

Was the idea this tax could be use — in part — to help the National Health Service prescribe fresh fruit and vegetables, for those of us who need them.

To me, personally … ?

That sounds — depending on how it’s done — like a good idea.

Oh, JUST as a thought … ?

You’ll remember I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago.

Which was fun … !

I had the results letter, back, yesterday.

The polyps that got removed?

Were benign.

I’m officially don’t have colon cancer!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Edith† and Debbi‡, putting in their answers: with Trevor scoring five out of five, and Debbi and Edith on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        15th July is Saint Swithun’s Day.   According to an old tradition, if it rains, today, it’ll keep raining for how long: twenty days, thirty days or forty days?

Q2)        15th July is also the feast day of Saint Edith of Polesworth.   Poleworth is in which English county?

Q3)        Actor, Martin Landau, died on 15th July, 2017.   He played Commander John Koenig in which science fiction series: Fantastic Journey, Star Trek or Space: 1999?

Q4)        Mount Bandai erupted: on 15th July, 1888.   The volcano is in which Asian nation: China, Japan or South Korea?

Q5)        Finally … ? Ken Kercheval was born: on 15th July, 1935.   Who did he play in Dallas: Cliff Barnes, J. R. Ewing or Miss Ellie?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        14th July sees France celebrating Bastille Day: marking the Storming of the Bastille.   In which year: 1789, 1790 or 1791?
A1)        1789.

Q2)        Storming the Bastille kick started the French … what?
A2)        The French Revolution.

Q3)        The French king, Louis 16th, was overthrown as a result of the storming of the Bastille: as was his notorious Queen.   She was Marie … whom?
A3)        Marie Antoinette.   (I wonder if cake’s available on the NHS … ?)

Q4)        The Bastille was in the French capital city.   What IS that city?
A4)        Paris.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Bastille’s demolition started, after the Storming.   In which year?
A5)        1789.
Here’s a thought …
“It is important that legislation keeps pace with scientific progress.”
Robert Winston, born 15 July 1940.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Celery … and avocado, Trevor?   We’re turning into a millennial, aren’t we?   Oh, there’s a ten question set on the 18th: JUST so you know … !

†        Thank you for saying so, Edith!   I’m just glad I’m able to entertain!   (Oh, the teaser for the 18th is a ten question set, so you know!)

‡       Really?   Well, it’s handy Drake had your email, Debbi!   I’m in the middle of ripping The Prisoner 50th anniversary box set, so you know.   I’m on the first disc: which has got another sixteen hours to go: it’s  ripping the five episode omnibus!   The interviews I told you about are on the last disc.   It’s going to take a while!
Oh … the 18th July?   Is another ten question set, so you know.   And it’s not about a US state!   (I’ll have to start on Canadian provinces, once I’ve done the US states …)

No this Baby Boomer cannot stand Avocados. Give me a good old Bread and home made dripping sandwich. Especially with the jelly from the bottom of the basin. Bit of salt on top. Never tried it with celery.

Before you start on Canadian provinces you could start on English Counties. Maybe start with Rutland.

Paul, Millie Jackson has such a lovely voice. I had heard the name, but not her music.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
