Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th January, 2022

12th January, 2022.

I have to say, I think I’ve got a quiet day ahead.

One where I don’t have to tramp up to the surgery, have a phone or video meeting, have to head for Chelmsford …

Or discuss my weight with someone.

Well … not until tomorrow, anyway.

That might just give me a chance to — metaphorically — put my feet up.

And possibly watch a movie.

We’ll have to see.

~≈fi≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Jeff Bezos was born on 12th January, 1964.   What’s the name of the retailing web site he founded: Amazon, Thames or Neva?

Q2)        Melanie Jayne Chisholm was born on 12th January, 1974.   She’s which member of the Spice Girls: Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger or Posh?

Q3)        Bass Reeves died on 12th January, 1910.   He was one of the USA’s first African American what: US Marshals, judges or bounty hunters?

Q4)        The Taal Volcano erupted: on 12th January, 2020.   Where is that volcano: the Bahamas, Micronesia or the Philippines?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Petrus Scriverius was born on 12th December, 1576: in the city of Haarlem.   Haarlem is where: Germany, the Netherlands or Belgium … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Bangladesh changed its name to Bangladesh: on 11th January.   Of which year of the 1970s?
A1)        1972.

Q2)        What had Bangladesh been called, before it changed its name: East Pakistan, West Pakistan or South Sudan?
A2)        East Pakistan.

Q3)        What’s Bangladesh’s capital city: Barisal, Chittagong or Dhaka?
A3)        Dhaka.

Q4)        What’s Bangladesh’s official language: Standard Bengali, British English or Khasi?
A4)        Standard Bengali.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Hilsa is a popular food in Bangladesh.   What is hilsa: a fish, a steak or a melon?
A5)        It’s a fish: and also called Ilish.   (Ilish: Ilish, not Eilish, that’s a singer … !)
Here’s a thought …
“I think people are starved for happy endings.   I know I was.”
Patsy Kelly, January 12, 1910 – September 24, 1981.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Oh, TELL me about it, Olga!   My utilities bills are stupid.   Granted I’ve had some help … but prices are getting worse: on practically everything!
It’s sounds like you could have an easy-ish job with the new student: I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!   Wish Little Anna and her family a happy New Year for me!

        Hello, Mum!

Oh, lord, yes, Debbi: prices and shipping are ongoing!   Sainsbury’s — where I went, yesterday — seem to be having less issues: but there was still the odd empty shelf.   (There’s one woman, there, though, who’s a Dr Who fan: so at least I get a chance to gossip about the blu ray box sets.)
It’s from an old Channel Four series called The IT Crowd: I don’t know where it’d be over there, although I’d guess it’s on Britbox.   I think it’s the same writers behind Count Arthur Strong and Father Ted.   (I’m rather fond of Arthur Strong.   And Father Ted should be up Rick’s street, it’s taking the Mickey out of catholic priests.)

I hope you do get a bit of a break today. I got a message from Anna yesterday, and as I had imagined, she wants to check questions about the book before the exam on Thursday (Jane Eyre), so we'll have moors and brooding this afternoon and then perhaps some other exam-related work. I have to cover a photographic exhibition for the radio tomorrow, so yes, the new year is ticking.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
