And I will: I can only hope things got as smoothly as possible for them. This isn’t exactly the easiest of times!

ª Did everyone hear that Bruce Willis is retiring? He’s gone down with a condition called Aphasia, which means he’s finding it difficult to carry on. I can only hope he finds the help he needs.

I hope your meeting today goes well. It's always a bit difficult to change the frequency of meetings, as it is not always evident if they are doing anything to help or not until they are no longer there, or they aren't there that often, but that is how things are set. Hopefully, with the test results, your GP might come up with some extra help.
Yes, I read about Bruce Willis's daughter's announcement. It is very sad, although aphasia is, well, I guess a "condition" if one likes, it is rather a symptom of something else, usually a stroke, and another sort of organic brain problem (often a dementia-type illness). Unfortunately, there is still a lot of reluctance to talk about certain illnesses, as if it was the patient's fault (although I understand the wish for privacy. I guess it is difficult to know what to do for the best). Here, quite a few public figures have talked about developing Alzheimer's and their diagnosis (a known and well-liked mayor of Barcelona, Pascual Maragall, died of the illness and there is a foundation in his name (he was the mayor during the Olympic Games), and recently, an actress from Barcelona, Carme Elías, has also talked about being diagnosed with the illness). It is devastating for them and for the families.
I've never been quite sure about Bruce Willis as an actor. I think he did well in comedy roles, and I don't dislike him, but I think he is (was) rather limited, although knowing your strengths and playing to them is a talent in itself. I particularly liked him in Pulp Fiction.
Do try to catch Pierrepoint. He is portrayed as a rather dignified figure, especially when dealing with the Nuremberg executions. If the movie is true to life, he was very respectful.
I am not sure if it might be available with subtitles, but there is a dark Spanish comedy called "El Verdugo" (The Executioner) of Berlanga, which is excellent. If you can get hole of it, watch it.

ReplyDeleteI have holidayed in Malta a few times. The last time I was there in the fall of 1988 as a break from my divorce from Anita.
I remember taking one of the old buses to the other side of the island and spending a sunny day walking across the island. It is only about 9 miles wide and in those days I did a fair amount of hiking.
I stopped off for lunch at a cafe in a village in the middle of nowhere.
For lunch I had one of the local specialities “Wild Rabbit stew”. It was very nice and I was the only tourist in that village.
If we had a TARDIS, we could find out now. :)
