Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th May, 2022

9th May, 2022.

It’s officially official: it’s Monday.

You’d noticed, hadn’t you?

It’s also the after the UK’s TV BAFTA’s were handed out.

Where actor, Ncuti Gatwa, had been nominated for Best Male Comedy Performance.

The reason’s that significant?

Is that the ceremony was yesterday: the same day Ncuti’s casting as the Fourteenth Doctor was announced.

I have to admit, yesterday?   Was the first time I’d heard of him.

To the point I had to Google how to pronounce his name.

It’s SHOE-ti GAT-wa, it seems.

Apparently, he’s done rather well for himself in the Netflix series, Sex Education.

There’s possibly a lot to say there: that I’ve possibly already covered.

I wish him luck, and am looking forward to his taking over.

We’ll possibly get to see him in (initial) action when he takes over: some time in October*, when Jodie Whittaker’s last episode airs …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Mum and Debbi on four.

The day also saw Trevorª leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.   (Today’s video has yesterday’s answers.)

Q1)        9th May is Liberation Day on the Channel Isles.   It marks the end of whose occupation of Jersey and Guernsey: Soviet Russia’s, Nazi Germany’s or Fascist Italy’s?

Q2)        9th May, 2020, saw the death of which rock star: Fats Domino, Little Richard or Chuck Berry?

Q3)        9th May, 1977, saw the birth of Mexican wrestler, Averno.   The word, ‘Averno,’ is usually translated into English as what: hell, fire or damnation?

Q4)        9th May is Victory Day over Nazism in World War II.   Where: Ukraine, Romania or Serbia?

Q5)        Finally … ?   9th May is the feast day of Saint Pachomius the Great.   He’s traditionally depicted crossing the Nile on a what: crocodile, alligator or gharial?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        8th May is International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.   It marks the birthday of the movement’s founder, Jean-Henri Dunant.   Which European country was Dunant from: Austria, Germany or Switzerland?
A1)        Switzerland.

Q2)        The Red Cross’s flag is a version of the flag of where: Austria, Germany or Switzerland?
A2)        Switzerland.

Q3)        8th May is White Lotus Day.   It’s marked by whom: Buddhists, Spiritualists or Theosophists?
A3)        Theosophists.

Q4)        8th May is the feast day of Saint Arsenius the Great.   He was also a what: anchorite, friar or cardinal?
A4)        An anchorite.   (If I’ve understood it?   An anchorite is a type of hermit who stays in one place.)

Q5)        8th May is Furry Day, in the town of Helstonº.   Helston’s in which English county?
A5)        Cornwall.
Here’s a thought …
“Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.”
J. M. Barrie, 9 May 1860 – 19 June 1937.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        The BBC’s Wikipedia entry tells us The BBC went in to operation on 18th October, 1922.   My calendar tells me that 18th October, 2022 is a Monday.   Given what Russell T. Davies has said, I expect Jodie’s last episode to be on the weekend of 16th and 17th October.   Given I was expecting Lydia West to be the 14th Doctor, I could easily be wrong.

        Hello, Mum!

It’s the same here, Olga: last night’s episode of Countryfile was talking about a shortage of vets.   Brexit didn’t help …

^        It looks like it’s on Amazon, Debbi, in one for or another.   Oh, talking of the big news?   Apparently, RTD and company had almost made their minds up about who they were going to pick: but had one last audition to do.   That last actor was Ncuti.   I’d love to know who they didn’t pick!   (I REALLY though Lydia West was a shoo-in!)

ª        Yeah, I did see that, Trevor.

º        Given it was Furry Day, yesterday, we’re obliged to do the Furry Dance.   Either the authentic Helston one, or Terry Wogan’s version.

    Well, interesting choice!
We have a new boiler. It is bigger, so let's hope for the best. (I'm looking forward to a hot shower after four days of cold showers, let me tell you that!
I was a big fan of Terry Wogan's radio programme, but even he used to laugh at his singing, so... Whatever!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
