Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 25-7-2022 — The Feast of St. James

25th July, 2022.

Right … I’m officially getting my leg x-rayed, this morning.

At lunchtime, at least.

It’s nothing serious: just a bit of checking on some minor deformation I’ve lived with for years.

Hopefully?

It should show some thing.

~≈Â≈~

Oh, just as a quick news piece?

I noticed this piece on the BBC’s news-site.

A chess playing robot has managed to injure the school boy it was playing.

Quite what wrong, there, I don’t know.

But?   You can bet someone’s going to start banging on about Skynet.

Or the Terminator.

Or how robots are going to kill us, and take over the world!

Hey, ho!

~≈Â≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone five out of five.

The day also saw Trevor^ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        25th July is the feast day of Saint James the Great, the patron saint of Spain.   And who else: medics, pharmacists or ambulance drivers?

Q2)        His remains are said to be in the Spanish town of Satiago de Compostela.   The town’s in which Spanish region: Asturias, Galicia or Cantabria?

Q3)        The region in question is what’s called an autonomous community. How many autonomous communities are there in Spain: fifteen, sixteen or seventeen?

Q4)        One Spanish region — the Canary Islands — are in which Ocean: the Pacific, Atlantic or Indian?

Q5)        Another Spanish region — the Balearic Islands — is in which sea: the Cantabrian Sea, the Mediterranean Sea or the Gulf of Genoa?

Q6)        Spain’s current currency is the Euro. Since when: 2022, 2012 or 2002?

Q7)        Spain’s current currency is the Euro.   What was the previous currency: the peseta, the dollar or the lira?

Q8)        Madrid is the capital of Spain: and its largest metropolitan area.   What’s Spain’s second largest metropolitan area: Barcelona, Valencia or Seville?

Q9)        Gazpacho is a type of Spanish soup.   Is it traditionally served how: hot, or cold?

Q10)        Finally?   Flamenco is a form of dance.   With its roots in which Spanish region: Aragon, Asturias or Andalusia?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        24th July, 1969, saw the birth of singer, songwriter and actress, Jennifer Lopez.   2022 saw her getting married to who: Christian Bale, Robert Pattinson or Ben Affleck?
A1)        Ben Affleck.

Q2)        The Menin Gate was unveiled in Ypres: on 24th July, 1927.   It’s a memorial to British and Commonwealth troops who fell during which World War?
A2)        World War One.

Q3)        24th July, 1943, saw the start of Operation Gomorrah.   The start, in other words, or the bombing of where: London, Hamburg or Coventry?
A3)        Hamburg.

Q4)        24th July is the feast day of Saint Declán of Ardmore. Ardmore, where: County Waterford, County Westmeath or New Zealand?
A4)        County Waterford.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Pioneer Day is celebrated on 24th July.   In which US state?
A5)        Utah.
Here’s a thought …
“I have the most evil memories of Spain, but I have very few bad memories of Spaniards.”
From Homage to Catalonia, by George Orwell.
And some music …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Thankfully, nothing’s burnt down, yet, Olga.   But I think it’s just a matter of time!
And that’s always the way with shopping!   I always end up kicking myself.   I did manage to get a bottle from the local Nisa’s, eventually.  (They use the same bottle of washing up liquid as Sainsbury’s: literally the same, just with different labels!)
Say ¡Hola! to Jordi, for me!   (I think I got it right, that time!)

It’s amazing how easy it is to do, Debbi!   (Are we talking # or #?)

^        It’s easy to word these things badly, Trevor: after all, her accession was in ’52: the coronation was in 1953.   In that sense, she came to the throne in ’53.

Thanks, ¡Hola! is perfect. Thanks for today's set. It was a long day yesterday (a pretty locally famous singer and friend of the neighbourhood and even of the radio station died on Friday, and they were having a ceremony yesterday evening. It was hot and packed, so it felt very tiring. So not having to check too many things was great.
Funnily enough, St James is not a holiday here in Catalonia. It is not a holiday in too many places, weirdly enough, but... well. There are only so many holidays in the calendar.
I'm not sure if I have shared this song before, but the mention of the Mediterranean made me think of it.

  3. Oh, by the way, the song I posted has nothing to do with the singer I mentioned who died on Friday. He is still alive. The singer who died was called Nuria Feliu.
    This is her webpage.
    https://nuriafeliu.cat/www20/
She sang mostly in Catalan, jazz and other styles over the years.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
