Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-12-2022 — Iowa.

28th December, 2022: Iowa.

Yes!

The bank holidays are now over!

Phew!

Which sounds a strange thing to say, I know.

But …

The world’s most stressful holiday is over.

Now all we have to remember … is the fact it’s New Years Eve on Saturday.

It’s all fun and games, isn’t it … ?

~≈Ω≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Trevor^ leaving us a comment.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Iowa joined the Union on the 28th December.   Of which year of the 1840s?

Q2)        It was which state to do so: the 28th, 29th or 30th?

Q3)        What’s Iowa’s capital: Bedford, Cedar Rapids or Des Moines?

Q4)        The capital is home to which rock band: Slipknot, Nirvana or Iron Maiden?

Q5)        Iowa fought on which side in the US Civil War?

Q6)        Iowa’s state flag is one of eight to feature an eagle.   Name one of the other state flags with an eagle.

Q7)        The Bridges of Madison County was filmed and set in Iowa.   Who directed The Bridges of Madison County: Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, or Alan Alda?

Q8)        Which Star Trek character comes from Iowa: Mr Spock, Captain Kirk or Admiral Picard?

Q9)        William Frederick Cody was born in Iowa.   He’s better known how: Buffalo Bill, Billy the Kid or William Wampum?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Ducky Holmes was born in Iowa: on January 28, 1869.   He played what for the Chicago White Sox: Baseball, American Football or ice hockey?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Marlene Dietrich was born on 27th December.   Of which year: 1900, 1901 or 1902?
A1)        1901.

Q2)        She was born in which country: Germany, Austria-Hungary or Switzerland?
A2)        Germany. (In what’s now Berlin.)

A3)        Morocco.

Q4)        Marlene played a singer called Frenchy: in which 1939 western?
A4)        Destry Rides Again.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Between 1957 and 1964, she recorded four albums, and performed many one woman shows.   Who was her arranger: Bernie Taupin, Burt Bacharach or Leonard Bernstein?
A5)        Burt Bacharach.
Here’s a motto …
“Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.”
Iowa’s Motto.
And a state song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Versions of the word do seem to crop up a lot, Olga.   There’s cack, in English: although it’s not used much.   I’m assuming it’s from the same Latin root.
Fun was definitely had, so you know: we managed to check out some of Jude’s Christmas gifts — the web cam was rather good, given the price — and upload a short to my channel.
        Have fun with Iowa!

        Hello, Mum … !

‡        Funny old thing, Debbi: ten questions about Iowa were a lot easier to write … than five questions about Bedfordshire!   Oh, just so you know?   There’s a twelve question set on the 31st December — it’s the usual Review of the Year set — and a ten question set about New Mexico on January 6th.   Hopefully the answers are all short.   I managed to avoid mentioning Roswell, too!

^        I don’t know where I’ve said that, Trevor: merely — for the last couple of years — that ‘Decisions about scores are final.

Good. I know what you mean about stressful holidays. Even though we felt it a bit, but we still have plenty of fun to come. I am waiting for specific news, but the radio station participates in a bit of a New Year's street party, and I've been there a few times (before COVID, of course) helping with the drinks. Shame you don't live nearby, as we could do with your expertise (not that it is a proper bar or anything. It is free but donations are encouraged). We listen to the bells (being housed in the bell house comes in handy on days like this), and there is music and merriment.
And then there is the children's fair, this year on the 4th, and the parade, on the 5th, but I haven't heard all the details yet.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
