Monday 23 January 2023

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-1-2023 — Rorke’s Drift.

23rd January, 2023: Rorke’s Drift.

It’s official: it’s Monday.

And payday.

Frankly?

I’m fully expecting my gas and electricity meters chew up a lot of cash!

~≈Ç≈~

Talking of which … ?

The BBC tells us that Ofgem — Britain’s entry regulator — is considering investigating energy companies habit of forcing people onto prepayment meters.

And — the important point for me — is that the regulator is talking about encouraging more social tariffs.

I hope that can be done.

Cheaper fuel would be VERY helpful.

~≈Ç≈~

Ha!

I’ve JUST talked to my energy supplier, SSE: to see if I could get a cheaper tariff for my Pay-as-you-go meter.

Apparently?

I’m on the cheapest available tariff.

Unlike BT, they don’t have a current social tariff.

That’s … not helpful!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Battle of Rorke’s Drift ended on 23rd January.   Of which which year of the 1870s?

Here’s a thought …
“Just over 150 British and colonial troops defended the station against attacks by 3,000 to 4,000 [native] warriors.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the battle.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

It sounds like an old fashioned post code lottery, Olga!   Is it me … But was the Peterloo you mentioned, the site of the Peterloo Massacre?   Oh, hang on … that was near Manchester, wasn’t … ?   Argh!
Talking of the Black and White Minstrels?   Did you know that Lenny Henry — when he was a lot younger — got talked into touring with the Black and White Minstrels Show: something he’s regretted, ever since.   I can only hope he sacked that agent!

It is JUST a touch off, Debbi, I know that.   The episode, itself, is great fun: it’s a ripping, Boys Own, adventure.   But, watching it some fifty-eight years after it was made?   I’m very aware it was made in a different era.

Did I say Peteloo? I meant Peterlee! Yes, it was (and it still is) a postcode lottery. It seems to be the same everywhere, though, because when my father was getting his cancer treatment, we would meet people coming from all places in Catalonia to get treatment there, as it is a tertiary hospital and there aren't many (if any) in other places. (To be fair, I think that hospital is classed as the third best in the country, of course, that varies as well from specialty to specialty, but...)
I hope the energy companies pay heed. They are a nightmare everywhere.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
