Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th January 2023.

24th January, 2023.

It’s official: I paid my bills, yesterday.

I’d got paid, after all!

Seeing how much money my gas and electricity meters have used was a bit of a shock.

At any rate?

I got paid … and got some shopping.

Frankly?   I forgot salt, tin foil … and cornflakes!

There’s always something!

~≈Ω≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        24th January is Uttar Pradesh Day.   Uttar Pradesh is a state in which republic: India, the USA or Brazil?

Q2)        Mark E. Smith died on 24th January, 2018.   He was lead singer of which British band: the Fall, the Cure or Captain Fantastic’s Automatic Jug Band?

Q3)        Ade Edmondson was born on 24th January, 1957.   He played Vyvyan in which series: Filthy, Rich and Catflap, Bottom or The Young Ones?

Q4)        24th January, 1935, saw the Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company start selling canned what: beer, wine or scotch?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Sgt. Shoichi Yokoi was found in a Guam jungle: on 24th January, 1972.   He was part of which country’s Army: the USA’s, Japan’s or Vietnam’s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Battle of Rorke’s Drift ended on 23rd January.   Of which which year of the 1870s?
A1)        The 1879.

Q2)        The Battle was in what’s now which country: South Africa, Zimbabwe or Egypt?
A2)        South Africa.

Q3)        It was part of a war between the UK, and which African people: the Tutsi, Mandinka or Zulu?
A3)        The Zulus.

Q4)        Members of the British army won how many Victoria Crosses as a result of the Battle: eleven, twelve or thirteen?
A4)        Eleven.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Battle was turned into a 1964 film: with Michael Caine.   Which 1964 film: The Yellow Rolls Royce, Zorba the Greek or Zulu?
A5)        Zulu.
Here’s a thought …
“There is a lot of rubbish written about toilet humour — people saying it is childish and pretending it is beneath them — but there is no doubting the effectiveness of a really good willy gag.”
Ade Edmondson, born 24 January 1957.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Argh!   I need new glasses, Olga!   You DID say Peterlee!   I think I need to have a word with SpecSavers.   (It could’ve served as a way of telling me to do a set on the Massacre: except I already did on, back in 2019!)
It sound like your father got very lucky, there: at least, in getting referred to that hospital: I can only hope they were able to do something!
I’m keeping my fingers crossed on the energy companies front.   But?   At least two phone companies are doing cheap social tariffs.   Why energy companies can’t, I don’t know!

        Hello, Mum!

‡        It’s Casablanca all over again, Debbi!   “Who’s the boy on piano?”
On a happier note?   I’m going to start reading Star Beast, at some point: it’s the comic strip the up coming 60th Anniversary special is based on.   It looks the spaceship in it is based on the original.   Or, at least, ‘inspired by’ it!   (I’m assuming the designers have tried to make it look as similar as possible … without violating Dave Gibbons’ copyright.)

Good luck on the research about telephone companies. I'm not surprised about the energy companies. Here we were trying to sort out some extra charges on my mother's energy bill, and it has been a bit of a nightmare. They do have a social discount, but the conditions are so strict that very few people can benefit from it. I suspect they are unlikely to know about it, unless they have somebody very well informed helping them out.

  2. Oh, Paul, one of the bloggers I follow on Wordpress shared this post from another blogger, who is blind and is experiencing some difficulties using her iPad to access posts. I know you don't use Wordpress but wonder if you might know of somebody who might be able to help. Just in case, here is her post.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
