Q4)Up until his death, Elizabeth 2nd was what: heir apparent, heir presumptive or heir lotion?
A4)Heir presumptive. (In other words, she could have been replaced as heir, had her parents had a third, male, child. The inheritance rules have since change: the eldest child inherits, regardless of gender.)
Q5)At the time of her death, she was queen of how many countries: fourteen, fifteen or sixteen?
Q6)As queen, she was what: Queen Regnant, Queen Consort or Queen Dowager?
A6)Queen Regnant. (In other words, a ruling queen. A Queen Consort, is, like Camilla, queen because she’s married to a king. A Queen Dowager is the widow of a king.)
Q7)She was ceremonial head of the what: Commonwealth, Imperial Council or International Olympic Committee?
A7)The Commonwealth. (She was replaced, on her death, by Charles 3rd.)
Q8)Her state funeral was held on 19th September. It was the first state funeral in the UK, since whose: Winston Churchill’s, Margaret Thatcher’s or Princess Diana’s?
“Genuine religion is not about speculating about God or the soul or about what happened in the past or will happen in the future; it cares only about one thing—finding out exactly what should or should not be done in this lifetime.”
Leo Tolstoy, 9 September, 1828 – 20 November, 1910.
† I know River was at a place called the Viper Room when he died, Olga. I get the impression the place has a reputation. Either way, it’s sad.
Oh, trust me: Jude’s definitely one for The Matrix movies! I don’t know if he’s seen the most recent one. (Did you know Keanu was in the 2008 remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still? Not as the robot, though.)
‡ Glad to hear it, Debbi! :D Oh … the next ten question set’s on the eleventh. It’s fairly cheerful, though … !
Q5) West Coast (Go West, young man, was what they used to say). Oh, yes, I remember watching the version of The Day the Earth Stood Still with Keanu Reeves on it years back. I think the original was much better, but he was right for the part. Reading about him, he seems to be a really nice guy, to be honest, but he is not a very adaptable actor. On the other hand, I think he does quite well with his talent, such as it is. These days it seems impossible to guess what the weather is going to be like from one minute to the next. There is a young boy here (well, I think he is about 16 now, but he has been doing this for years) who does weather predictions, and he has been incredibly accurate when predicting some pretty freak weather (like the snow storm a couple of years back that hit Madrid and the centre of Spain). It seems he checks weather maps and all that, but he also takes into account some old methods used by farmers, etc., like looking at the behaviour of insects and other animals (ants seem to be pretty accurate). He is predicting more rain to come for the end of the month. I hope the weather is not too bad while we are away.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
