Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar — 26th September 2023.

26th September, 2023.

Right then …

I had my nephew over, yesterday!

Which you’d possibly realised: if you’d read yesterday’s Teaser!

At any rate … ?

He’s been exploring UFC4 on the Playstation 4!

You couldn’t tell, could you … ?

~≈Î≈~

I had some sad news, when I woke up: seemingly?

Actor, David McCallum has died: at the age of ninety.

That’s … well, that’s started my day on a low note.

The man was very good at his job: Sapphire and Steel a big part of my childhood.

He’ll be much missed.

~≈Î≈~

And finally … ?   The other news piece that caught my attention?

Was this: a piece that tells us some twenty-four thousand letters were lost by a hospital trust in Newcastle.

I am no expert: especially on large infrastructure IT systems.

But … ?   Well … ?

Aren’t these things supposed to be backed up … ?

~≈Î≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi and Mum scoring five out of five, and Olga on four.

The day also saw Trevor¶ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        In the EU, 26th September is the European Day of Languages.   How many official languages does the EU have: twenty-two, twenty-three or twenty-four?

Q2)        According to the UN, 26th September is the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.   Most nuclear weapons are powered by what: chemical reactions, fission reactions or water wheels?

Q3)        Stanislav Petrov realised the Soviet early warning systems had issued a false alarm — a false alarm about US nuclear missiles — on 26th September.   26th September of which years of the 1980s?

Q4)        The first mission in the Biosphere 2 Dome started: on 26th September, 1991.   It lasted until 26th September, when: 1992, 1993 or 1994?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Which Anglo-French Jets made a record Atlantic crossing on 26th September, 1973?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Nepal was formal created when several smaller kingdoms unified on 25th September.   25th September of which year of the 1760s?
A1)        1768.

Q2)        The Prince who created Nepal, moved his capital from the old capital, Gorkha, to the new, current, capital.   What is Nepal’s current capital?
A2)        Kathmandu.

Q3)        Some eighty percent of Nepal’s population practise which religion: Islam, Buddhism or Hinduism?
A3)        Hinduism.

Q4)        Nepal’s currency is the Nepalese what: dollar, pound or rupee?
A4)        The Nepalese rupee.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Royal Gurkha Rifles are made up of Nepalese troops. They’re part of which country’s army: the UK’s, Germany’s or Spain’s?
A5)        The UK’s.   (For a British man to write about Nepal, and not mention one of the British Army’s best units?   Would be mild sacrilege … )

Here’s a thought …

“I have measured out my life with coffee spoons”.
From The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T. S. Elliot (26 September 1888 – 4 January 1965).

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you and hers, Olga.   Anything involving memory loss is … not good!
We had a VERY good time!   And ending up talking about exactly how long a frame of snooker could last.   Jude was a little boggled, when he found out the World Championship final used to take five days.   He’s used to football …

        Hello, Mum!

It sounds messy, Debbi: and complicated!   But then, that always seems to be the way, with the legal system!
Oh I caught the video: I’ve set up a set of tweets over the course of the next few days, AND left a comment!

        Cheers, Trevor!

I must say I'm with Jude. I don't have a lot of patience for sports that last forever and ever and ever... (Although, to be honest, these days I watch very little sport).

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
