Friday 20 October 2023

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th October 2023.

20th October, 2023.

Well, well, well … it’s Friday.

And it’s a Friday where it’s raining.

It’s not looking good out.

I think heading out for a walk … is going to get me soaked!

~≈¥≈~

On other fronts?

I applied for Personal Independence Payment, a while back: and have put in an appeal against a (refused) reconsideration.

I was a little worried.

As — according to the relevant website — the Department of Work and Pensions had not responded to the courts: potentially holding things up in the process.

They have now — as of yesterday — done so.

Things are slowly moving …

~≈¥≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        20th October is Revolution Day, and one of two Patriotic Days.   Where: El Salvador, Guatemala or Honduras?

Q2)        20th October, 2022, saw who step down as the UK’s Prime Minister: after forty-five days in office?

Q3)        20th October, 1977, saw the crash of an airplane: killing six people in the process.   The dead included members of which American rock band: Jefferson Starship, Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Mothers of Invention?

Q4)        20th October, 1895, saw the birth of actor, Rex Ingram.   He played Sgt. Major Tambul: in which 1943 film: Cabin in the Sky, Sahara or Fired Wife?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Convention of 1818 was signed on 20th October, as 1818.   The convention fixed the border between the USA: and where?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        19th October is Oxfordshire Day.   What’s Oxfordshire’s country town?
A1)        Oxford.

Q2)        Oxfordshire is usually abbreviated to what: Oxon, Oxo or Ox?
A2)        Oxon.

Q3)        Marjorie Glasgow is Oxfordshire’s current what: Lord Lieutenant, Lord Mayor or High Sheriff?
A3)        Lord Lieutenant.

Q4)        What’s the only stone circle in Oxfordshire?
A4)        The Rollright Stones.   (The Stones featured in a Dr Who story called The Stones of Blood.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Chef, Rick Stein, was born in Oxfordshire.   He now owns a lot of restaurants, where: Devon, Cornwall or Somerset … ?
A5)        Cornwall.

Here’s a thought …
“If I had one per cent of the millions Dracula has made, I wouldn’t be sitting here now.”
Bela Lugosi, October 20, 1882 – August 16, 1956.
And a tune …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

You’re not wrong, Olga, you’re not wrong.
One thing I know is encouraged in rehab — or, at least, the 12-step rehab schemes and group sessions I’ve attended — is being plain spoken: that way, whatever you have to say is understood by as many of your fellow patients as possible.   That’s what caught my attention with this chap: some of his posts were very convoluted.

‡        Interesting is possibly not the word, Debbi!
At any rate, it’s funny you should mention that: I’ve just started A Life With Footnotes.   Oh, and I don’t know if this is available where you are … but it airs on 1st November …

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.

*   I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
