Nik Nak's Daily Teaser — 21-12-2023 — The Daleks

21st December, 2023: The Daleks.

It's officially Thursday.

And?

I'm counting down the days until my iMac's repaired: it's due, tomorrow.

Not that I'm feeling anxious, or anything.

But I'm feeling anxious!

You possibly couldn't tell, could you!?

~≈⸸≈~

At any rate ... ?

In amongst all the various shades of panic, anxiety and caffeinated drinks?

I had a workman visit!

To repair the extractor fan in my bathroom.

Unfortunately?

He couldn't do it: as, apparently, he didn't have the right kit with him.

Or it was too fiddly a job for the kit he had.

That was disappointing.

But at least he was able to arrange for another appointment: when he could bring the relevant stuff.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Debbi‡ and Alan§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1‭)‬        The first‭ Doctor Who‭ ‬story to feature the Daleks,‭ ‬was broadcast on‭ ‬21st December.‭   Of which year of the‭ ‬1960s‭?

Q2‭)        The story was written by who:‭ ‬Robert Holmes,‭ ‬Terry Nation or Dennis Potter‭?‬

Q3‭)‬        The first episode was called‭ ‬“The Dead‭ …” ‬what:‭ ‬planet,‭ ‬forest or swamp‭?‬

Q4‭)‬        The first sight of a Dalek was of a Dalek manipulator arm,‭ ‬at the end of the first episode.‭   That arm looks suspiciously like a what:‭ ‬sink plunger,‭ ‬hammer or syringe‭?‬

Q5‭)‬        Finally‭ ‬… ?   Peter Hawkins,‭ ‬and David Graham,‭ ‬provided the Daleks distinctive what:‭ ‬voices,‭ ‬sound effects or movements‭?‬

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1‭)‬        Singer-songwriter,‭ ‬Billy Bragg,‭ ‬was born on‭ ‬20th December.‭   Of which year of the‭ ‬1950s‭?
A1‭)        1957‭.

Q2‭)        He’s known as the Bard of where:‭ ‬Barking,‭ ‬Basildon or Brentwood‭?‬
A2‭)        Barking‭.‭

Q3‭)‬        Life’s a Riot with Spy vs Spy‭ ‬was Bragg’s first LP.‭ ‬It was released in which year of the‭ ‬1980s‭?‬
A3‭)‬        1983.‭

Q4‭)‬        One track from that LP‭ ‬— “A New England‭” — ‬was famously covered by who:‭ ‬Dusty Springfield,‭ ‬Kirsty MacColl or Shane MacGowan‭?‬
A4‭)‬        Kirsty‭ MacColl‭.‭

Q5‭)‬        Finally‭ ‬… ? Bragg’s most recent LP‭ — The Million Things That Never Happened‭ — ‬was released in the UK in which year:‭ ‬2020,‭ ‬2021‭ ‬or‭ ‬2022‭?‬
A5‭)‬        2021‭.‭

Here’s a very Daleky thought …

“‬We do not have to adapt to the environment.‭ ‬We will change the environment to suit us.‭”‬
‬A Dalek,‭ ‬speaking in‭ The Daleks‭.

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I hope they show what's going on, Olga: that should make the procedure worth the effort!   Good luck with the results, either way!   (If it's any help?   A school friend's parents were/are deaf: apparently, bass notes can be ... not heard, per se, but certainly made out.   Apparently, watching his parents waltz to Motorhead songs was quite something.)
I'll be honest, this is the first time any of the five or so Macs I've owned, have need any sort of repair.   That -- and the fact the repair shop is under new ownership? -- is what's getting me worried.   (I've used it before now: for various phone repairs: it's why I went back to it, this time.)

        Hello, Mum!

I'll admit it, Debbi, I was concerned!   But it sounds like you had a good reason!   I can imagine the exercises are helpful: the ones I had for my knees were just as useful!

§        Hopefully, Alan, you'll know a few things about today's subject!

I'll keep you posted on the results. I've never had my computers repaired, because usually I would ask my cousin and the repair always seemed to cost more than a new computer (because all were quite old already) or I just updated them when they we no longer fit for purpose. I hope it all goes well.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
