Friday 2 February 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-2-2024 — World Wetlands Day.

2nd February, 2024: World Wetlands Day.

Yes: it’s Friday.

And yes: I’ve had my weekly Trulicity injection.

The sooner I find out if I can move back to Ozempic, though?

The drug that seems to be far more efficient at helping lose weight*?

The happier I’ll be.

~≈Î≈~

Yes: it’s officially official!

I still have an earworm†.

The same one that was plaguing me, yesterday.

I get the impression it’s going to be as persistent as Jessica Lange‡!

Heigh-ho!

~≈Î≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum§, Olga¶ and Debbi¹ putting in their answers: with Olga and Mum scoring five out of five, and Debbi on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        2nd February is World Wetlands Day.   According to whom: the European Union, United Nations or the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation?

Q2)        The theme for this year’s day is “Wetlands and Human” … what: wellbeing, health or economy?

Q3)        Wetlands are protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat: signed in the city of Ramsar.   Where isRamsar: Iran, Iraq or Israel?

Q4)        Wetlands are flooded, or saturated, with water: which helps keep the soil anoxic.   In other words, short of what: oxygen, nitrogen or hydrogen?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Estuaries are wetlands fed by tidal water.   And water from what: lakes, ponds or rivers?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The UK recognised the USSR.   On 1st February of which year of the 1920s?
A1)        1924.

Q2)        The USSR was the Union of Soviet Socialist … what?
A2)        Republics.

Q3)        The Soviet body responsible for diplomats and treaties was then called the People's Commissariat for Foreign what: affairs, missions or diplomacy?
A3)        Affairs.

Q4)        The British department that managed foreign affairs was the then what: Commonwealth Office, Foreign Office or Department of Trade and Industry?
A4)        The Foreign Office: now called the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.   (Government department have a habit of being amalgamated, split up and merged into others.   The former Department of Health and Social Security is now, several reshuffles later, the Department of Health and Social Care, and the Department of Work and Pensions.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   The two countries severed relations, when: 1927, 1928 or 1929?
A5)        1927.

Here’s a thought …

“Wetlands, or simply a wetland, is a distinct ecosystem that is flooded or saturated by water, either permanently (for years or decades) or seasonally (for weeks or months).”
From the Wikipedia entry on wetlands.

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Apparently, Novo Nordisk — the company that makes Ozempic — has had very good financial results, this year.   I’m tempted to get sarcastic, but will try and avoid it.

Having it on repeat is possibly not a good idea.   But?   “Dodonpa” is a good tune to type to.

‡        Lange plays Sister Jude in series two of American Horror Story: the character is a sadistic nun who likes spanking her patients.   Lange’s fan mail must have been odd!

§        Hello, Mum!

That sounds like a handy little earner, Olga².   After all some of the stuff — technical kit, Blu-rays and such-like — will have good resale value.   I think you’re right, though: you’re not going to get any thing expensive, just yet!

¹        You were a year out on Q5, Debbi: it was actually 1927!   You do have a good innings, though!

²        Yeah, sorry about the earworm, Olga.   It could’ve been worse, though!

Yes, in theory you cannot resell the products and you have to keep them six months in case they want them back (I guess it depends on what they are, though, because some things you will have used up). You might be liable for taxes on the things that are quite valuable as well, but I guess you'd need to review a lot of stuff for it to make a difference.

  3. Hopefully, I can do better with wetlands. Not my area of expertise, but one of interest.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
