Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-4-2024 — International Romani Day

8th April, 2024: Internațional Romani Day.

Yay!

It’s Monday morning!

The start of a whole new week: one that lets me hop, skip, jump and generally prance about!

OK, maybe not: not with my knees, at any rate!

Either way?

I’ve finished — and posted — a video review.

And I’m off to my weight management meeting, today.

Hopefully?

I’ll get more sleep at some point!

~≈Ω≈~
Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        8th April is International Romani Day.   The Roma are what: nomads, settlers or commuters?

Q2)        Traditionally, the Roma travel in caravans called what: a vardo, a charabanc or a conestoga?

Q3)        Fictional gangster, Tommy Shelby, is said to be of Romani heritage: and played by Cillian Murphy. In which series: The Riches, Z for Zachariah or Peaky Blinders?

Q4)        Jardani Jovonovich is another fictional Roma: and played by Keanu Reeves.   In which film franchise: John Wick, Fast and Furious or XXX?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Romani flag was created in 1933.   It’s red, blue … and what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        7th April is National Beer Day.   Where: Canada, the USA or Mexico?
A1)        The USA.

Q2)        National Beer Day marks the day the President signed a law: one that eased Prohibition, later that year.   Which year: 1932, 1933 or 1934?
A2)        1933.

Q3)        Which President signed the law?
A3)        Franklin Delano Roosevelt: also known as FDR.

Q4)        Most beers are made with malted barley, water … and which ‘H’?
A4)        Hops.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Most beers contain a gas.   Which gas: oxygen, nitrogen or carbon dioxide?
A5)        Carbon dioxide.
Here’s a thought …

“Linguistic and genetic evidence suggests that the Romani originated in the Indian subcontinent, in particular the region of present-day Rajasthan.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the Roma people.

And some music …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Taste … or possibly opinion, Olga!   Or possibly politics.   Sweden winning, last year — meaning they host the contest on the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s win — was a bit convenient!

        Hello, Mum!

I’ve not seen one for years, either, Debbi: mind you, it never really appealed.   James Bond, on the other hand?

Yes, you're right. I must say Spain has sent some godawful songs sometimes, and I particularly remember the one that didn't get a single vote, and I wasn't surprised. I wouldn't have voted for it either.
Funnily enough, and although I don't really like flamenco (the music some, the dancing, some, but some of the songs... no thanks), listening to it now, I don't think it was quite as bad as I thought at the time, and the singer hasn't done badly.

Flamenco, although visitors to Spain usually are eager to see some (even in Catalonia, when in reality, it comes from Andalucia, although, of course you can find shows anywhere), they don't seem to rate it so highly in things like Eurovision, because I recent song in that vein didn't do well either. Mind you. The one they're sending this year is... something else.

  3. I like the James Bond films, but Roger Moore went a bit too over-the-top for me.

I thought Timothy Dalton was great. But the writing in the second film ... not so much.

    Daniel Craig has been awesome.

That's it, then. No segue. :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
