Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-6-2019: The Wicked Weed

16th June, 2019.

Yep: I do bedtime reading …

Which possibly isn’t surprising, all things considered.

You’ve possibly worked out I like a good book, by now.

And, last night … ?

I managed to get started on Micheal Moorcock’s Mother London.

Two chapters in … ?

It’s looking good.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) The first country to totally ban tobacco did so on 16th June.   Which country was it?
Q2) In which year?
Q3) The world’s main commercial tobacco plant is Nicotiana … what?
Q4) Which ‘N’ is the main psycho-active ingredient in tobacco?
Q5) Finally … ?   Tobacco was named — in 2008 — as the single greatest cause of preventable disease.   By WHO?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) The IRA set off a bomb in central Manchester: on 15th June of which year?
A1) 1996.
Q2) The bomb went outside the Arndale Centre.   The Arndale centre was a what: shopping centre, cinema complex or theatre district?
A2) Shopping centre: what our American cousins would call a shopping mall.
Q3) The bombing was carried out by the Provisional … whom?
A3) The Provisional Irish Republican Army, or IRA.
Q4) The bomb exploded in Corporation Street: and was hidden in a what: car, lorry or van?
A4) A van.
Q5) Finally … ?   Roughly two hundred people were injured in the explosion.   How many died on the day?
A5) Thankfully none.
Here’s a thought …
“I’ll tell you why I like the cigarette business. It cost a penny to make. Sell it for a dollar. It’s addictive. And there’s a fantastic brand loyalty.”
Warren Buffet.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Oh, the one with the ‘misplaced’ mobile, Olga?   I remember that one: and couldn’t help but think Juan Gea would be very good as one of Terry Pratchett’s key recurring characters.

†        I can’t say I blame you, Debbi!   Mind you, I’ve had some enforced off time … !

Yes, I think you're right. I remember that they had to come in and out of a confession booth... I started watching Good Omens, finally yesterday, and I'm enjoying it, although I can't recall ever reading the book, and I know some people who have, have expressed some reservations.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
