Was actually watching her speech on TV: and guessed that was what she was going to do, when the BBC news channel told us she was meeting the head of the Conservative 1922 Committee, the backbench committee that organises their leadership elections.
Then the BBC announced Ms Truss would be making a statement.
It didn’t say about what.
But, when the time came?
The reporter told us that she — and her husband — had walked out of the door of №10.
Which is when I thought “She’s resigning.”
I know of few other times that a PM addresses the nation with a spouse.

I suspect that the meeting between her and Graham Brady, the head of the 19922 committee was interesting.
Under the rules that saw Boris Johnson thrown out?
They had to get so many letters of no confidence.
And normally would have to wait for a year before having another.
Some time in July, 2023, if I’ve got things right.
I suspect that, at the meeting? Sir Graham would’ve said “Liz, we’ve got the required number of letters. You can wait until July, cause more problems, and get a lot more. Or you can walk out of the door, today.”
She did the right thing, and walked.
Sharpish.

What happens next?
I don’t know.
Nominations for the truncated leadership election have to be in by Monday.
The results will be announced on Friday, 28th October, 2022. Next Friday.
I think if Boris Johnson’s returned as leader? He’ll lead the Tories to another election win.
I’m no Tory voter: and couldn’t vote for the Tories if you paid me*.
But? I think with him back in place, they’d have a significant advantage.
Putting it simply? The man has more charisma than any of the other party leaders, put together: that’s one hell of an asset.
Either way?
Whoever gets in, needs to call a general election.
A new PM needs the support of the people. Not just the Conservative party.

Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡, and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) Alec Baldwin accidentally shot Halyna Hutchins on the set of a film called Rust. On 21st October of which year?
Q2) 21st October is the feast day of Saint Ursula. She’s a patron saint of whom: male teachers or female students?
Q3) For Whom The Bell Tolls was first published on 21st October, 1940. Who wrote For Whom The Bell Tolls?
Q4) Canada’s 2019 federal election ended: on 21st October, 2019. Who became Canadian PM as a result: Andrew Scheer, Jagmeet Singh or Justin Trudeau?
Q5) Finally … ? 21st October, 1917, saw the birth of jazz musician, Dizzy Gillespie. Famously, he played an extremely bent what: trumpet, trombone or saxophone?
* That’s not completely accurate. I would’ve voted for them, once — once — had Rishi Sunak kept the £20 Uplift. He didn’t. I believe he lost more than just my vote, that day.
† Yes: it does make you wonder who’s in charge, Olga. It’s certainly not Liz Truss! And yes: conspiracy theories can have some interesting story ideas. But you’re right, I think: it’s not just the idea, it’s the ability, that helps.
There’s a singer who used to play at the Essex Arms who’s a case in point: called Nicky Moore. His version of Heartbreak Hotel is better than Elvis’. It’s not just about the talent, Nicky and Elvis both had that. But Nicky has the technical ability, the age and experience, as well.
‡ Hello, Mum!
^ I’ll keep my eye open for that, Debbi. Something you might appreciate, though? His biography’s out.
And I have to admit, I really should sit down with The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover: it’s supposed to be quite the performance.
Oh, have a listen to the Nicky Moore song I posted for Olga: he’s one HELL of a performer! Oh, and I forgot Terry’s t-shirt … !
Q5) trumpet From the frying pan to the fire and all that comes to mind when thinking about British politics at the moment. They should go for an actual election because this is a shambles. Thanks for the song. He is good!
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
