Q1) 25 November is Independence Day in Suriname. It marks the day in 1975 the country became independent from where: Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg?
† It’s useful, Olga: although it doesn’t warm up very fast. (We’ve had sunshine, the past couple of days: but we’re due some rain …)
‡ With Bond … !? I’ve got to admit, Debbi, Q’s my favourite character. I always had this thing about wizards. (Ben Wishaw as Q, Colin Morgan’s take on Merlin, Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Alec Guinness as Ben Kenobi, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and an AI generated picture of the Finn. It’s always the way, isn’t it, Debbi? Before they go on an adventure, the hero usually has to get something from a wizard …)
Q5) Ingrid Bergman Good luck with the sweetener, Paul. I don't add sugar to anything, but I don't like hot drinks, so I guess that is why. Yes, grown-up (and even elderly) black men were called "boys". It is incredible to think about it now, but it is important not to whitewash everything, I think, otherwise, people will end up not knowing what happened.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
† Your Facebook, X/Twitter, Blogger, Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn profile are acceptable. I also like seeing folks webpages.
I suspect that — for those of us who know the film? — the line “Who’s the boy on piano?” is still vaguely shocking!

In screenwriting, they call it "meeting the mentor." :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I get it. Wizards are cool.
Yes, that phrase about "the boy" didn't age particularly well, did it? :)
