Sunday 10 September 2023

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10th September, 2023.

10th September, 2023.

Right … it’s Sunday.

And … ?

The day after I’ve received a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions: telling me that I’m not going to be receiving Personal Independence Payment, that the Mandatory Reconsideration has not gone my way.

And the day before I can phone them — or use the website — to start the appeal process.

I’m …

Well …

Not exactly happy!

At any rate … ?

Yes: I’ve released another video review.

I hope you enjoy it!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Debbi and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Hamida Djandoubi became the last person executed in Western Europe: when he was executed for murder on 10th September, 1977.   How was he executed: by hanging, electric chair or guillotine?

Q2)        Which neutral nation joined the UN, on 10th September, 2002: Serbia, Singapore or Switzerland?

Q3)        American TV’s longest running western started on 10th September, 1955.   What was that western: Gunsmoke, Bonanza or Deadwood?

Q4)        Jack Ma was born on 10th September, 1964.   He’s the co-found of which company: the Alibaba Group, Huawei or Tencent?

Q5)        Finally … ?   10th September is the feast day of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino.   He’s the patron saint of souls held where: Heaven, Hell, Houston or Purgatory?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        9th September is Emergency Services Day.   Where: the UK, USA or UAE?
A1)        The UK.

Q2)        The country’s emergency services number is 999.   What’s the other number that can be used: 111, 112 or 113?
A2)        112.

Q3)        El Intocable was born on 9th September, 1976.   He’s a what: Mexican wrestler, American footballer or Russian chess player?
A3)        Mexican Wrestler. The name translates as ‘the Untouchable.’   (In high stakes matches, losing means permanently removing the traditional mask — or long hair — luchadors wear: something el Intocable would know.)

Q4)        The first rapid transit rail line on the Arabian peninsula went into operation: on 9th September, 2009.   Where: Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Bahrain?
A4)        Dubai.

Q5)        Finally … ?   California joined the USA: on 9th September, 1850.   Is the state on the USA’s east or west coast?
A5)        West coast.

Here’s a thought …
“I don’t like to do remakes.”
Robert Wise, September 10, 1914 – September 14, 2005.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Ants, you say, Olga?   I don’t think that would surprise me, somehow.   I believe the old superstition — about flying ants swarming if there’s been rain — is supposed to have a bit of truth to it.   And the old ‘Red Sky at Night’ thing has truth to it, as well.   I don’t think we’re due snow, though … !

        Hello, Mum!

Good luck with the panel, Debbi: break a leg!

  1. Recheck the answers to question 4. I think you need to restate the scores.

Sorry to hear about their decision, Paul. Here tomorrow it is a holiday (here, in Catalonia, as it is la Diada), but I hope there is something else you can do. Things aren't any better here. One of my friend who suffers from fibromyalgia, has been trying to get a pension, as she can no longer do her job, but after years of trying, no luck. A cousin of mine who is a welder has suffered eye-injuries as well, and even in that case it seems he won't get anything. A mess.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
