Q3)What’s Austria’s capital: Vienna, Graz or Linz?
A3)Vienna. (Altogether, now, “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, Vieeenna!”. The song was only kept off of the Number 1 spot by Joe Dolce’s “Shadapp You Face.” Someone has to be joking … !)
Q4)Austria’s official language is a version of what: German, French or Hungarian?
“Amsterdam was founded at the mouth of the Amstel River that was dammed to control flooding; the city’s name derives from a local linguistic variation of the word dam.”
* Tell me about it, Olga! That’s where I went wrong: I had it listed on one, but not the other! I swear, I’ll get the hang of technology, one day!
† Hello, Mum!
‡ That’s the big downside of the Disney deal, Debbi! If you can’t afford it, what are you supposed to do? Bar hunt around on Pirate Bay?
I do know the 60th Anniversary specials are available to pre-order on the UK branch of Amazon: but don’t if the fourteenth and fifteenth seasons will be, nor if any of them will be available internationally.
§ Why on Earth did it have to be a metal sign, Trevor? Yes, I know, that was the local laws: but why have a law insisting on metal signs?
Q5) football Yes. Sometimes if I update the calendar at the place where I am, not to waste people's time, I might only update one of them, and it can be tricky. And, of course, there are the times when I might have entered the wrong date or time by mistake, and the two calendars don't coincide. I'm not sure there is a foolproof option, other than having your own PA, and not even that! Oh, by the way, I didn't mention it yesterday, but any time somebody asks something referring to the Austro-Hungarian empire (el imperio autrohúngaro en Spanish), it makes me think of a Spanish film director, called Luís García Berlanga (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luis_Garc%C3%ADa_Berlanga) who made some truly wonderful movies (I don't know if there is such a genre as a sad-comedy, perhaps bitter-sweet comes closer to what he did) but very true to life, especially as life was during the dictatorship here (he made some later, and they are not bad, but the early ones are wonderful, and I recommend them if you can get hold of them). He always had somebody mention "el imperio austrohúngaro" in his movies, a bit like Hitchcock making an appearance. It was his trademark.
I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?
I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.
Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.
Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.
Thank you.
* I know many value their online privacy. I respect that. But hope you respect my wish to see who’s commenting on my blog: and my wish for you to introduce your self to me, and to your fellow commentors.
