Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th October, 2023.

28th October, 2023.

Right …

It’s now officially Saturday.

And, frankly?

I’m thinking a film could be a good idea.

Once I’ve got some videos edited.

We’ll have to see.

~≈¥≈~

I’m sure you — like I — have seen the news of a mass shooter in Maine.

And the news that the suspected shooter — a man called Robert Card — had been found dead, by his own hand, after a three day manhunt.

That’s unfortunate.   As unfortunate as if he were to have been (understandably) shot by local police.

Because?

It means we — and the families of his victims — can’t ask him why he did this.

‘Unfortunate’ is possibly putting it mildly.

~≈¥≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

The day also saw Trevor§ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        28th October is Ohi Day.   Where: Albania, Greece or Turkey?

Q2)        According to the ASIFA, 28th October is International what Day: International Animation Day, International Film Day or International Radio Day?

Q3)        28th October is the feast day of Saint Jude.   He’s the patron saint of where: Armenia, Bulgaria or Czechia?

Q4)        28th October, 1950, saw the birth of journalist, Sihem Bensedrine.   She’s from which North African nation?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Actress, Annie Potts, was born on 28th October, 1952.   She played which character in the Toy Story franchise: Bo Peep, Mrs Potatohead or Trixie?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        27th October, 1275 is the traditional founding date of Amsterdam.   The city is in which European country?
A1)        The Netherlands.

Q2)        Famously, the city has a lot of what: canals, roads or toasters?
A2)        Canals.

Q3)        Amsterdam is known as the what of the North: Venice of the North, Vienna of the North or Volga of the North?
A3)        Venice of the North.

Q4)        De Wallen is Amsterdam’s best known what: theatre district, red light district or docklands area?
A4)        red light district.   (They not houses of ill-repute, they’re actually quite well spoken of … … … )

Q5)        Finally … ?   AFC Ajax are based in Amsterdam.   They play what: football, cricket or volleyball?
A5)        Football.   (I can remember the first time I mentioned them in a quiz.   I had fifteen people telling me, very loudly, how to correctly pronounce the name!   It’s — if I’ve got it right! — pronounced ‘eye-YAKS’.)

Here’s a thought …
“The life of the super-rich is not one to be envied, whizzing round in those horrid little jet planes all the time.”
David Dimbleby, born 28 October 1938.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Oh, LORD, but a PA would come in handy, Olga!   There’s been times I could’ve done with one!
And Señor García-Berlanga sounds a little like John Landis, as well as Hitchcock.   Landis always tried to throw the phrase, “See you next Wednesday”, into his films.   Wikipedia tells us Landis lifted it from 2001: A Space Odyssey.   I got told — many years ago — that it was a reference to a Popeye character called Wimpy.
Wimpy would always ask others for money for a hamburger: and promise to pay it back on Tuesday …

Hello, Mum!   (The phrase is used about a lot of places, Mum.)

‘Pooh’ is one way of putting it, Debbi!
Actually, do you mind a confession, Debbi?   I can never hear the word ‘rat’, without thinking of Slippery Jim DiGriz … !

§        So they were trying to keep the place looking medieval, Trevor?   That’s possibly an excuse for AI generated art …

Q3) Armenia

Q4) Tunisia

Q5) Bo Peep
Yes, it sounds as if Berlanga and Landis had that in common. I remembered the Popeye character but not the name, and I had to check. Here they called him Pilón. I have no idea why, although sometimes the cartoons were dubbed into Spanish elsewhere, so it might have a different meaning in other Spanish-speaking countries. (It seems that in Mexico is something extra they give you when you go shopping if you buy a lot... Here it is normally a stone with a hole on it where they put water, so not much to do with the name). Of course, Wimpy's didn't exist here then (or now, for that matter), so the original name doesn't mean much either.
