Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th October 2023.

4th October, 2023.

Yes: it’s officially official.

I had my nephew, Jude, over, yesterday!

Yes, video has been posted!

One that’s made from very high quality recording from Jude’s new Playstation 5.

Boy, we had issues, there!

Just to try and summarise?

It turns out that — by default — Jude’s new console, a Playstation 5, does screen recordings in the relatively new .webm format: rather than the older .mp4 format.

Basically?

It meant having to do some very quick video conversion: to get the new files into a format we could use in iMovie.

Explaining the differences to a very frustrated 12 year old*†?

Took some doing!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga‡, Mum¶ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        France adopted its current constitution: on 4th October, 1958.   That Constitution is the Constitution of where: the Third French Republic, Fourth French Republic or Fifth French Republic?

Q2)        More to the point … ?   How many amendments does the current constitution have: twenty-four, twenty-five or twenty-six?

Q3)        Charlton Heston was born on 4th October, 1923.   He played the title role in which 1959 film: The Alligator People, Ben Hur or Carry On Nurse?

Q4)        Sputnik was launched on 4th October.   Of which year of the 1950s?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Maria Sophie of Bavaria was born on 4th October, 1841.   Bavaria is now part of where: Germany, Austria or Switzerland?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        3rd October is Mean Girls Day: honouring the film, Mean Girls.   Who plays the film’s main character: Lindsay Lohan, Winona Ryder or Reese Witherspoon?
A1)        Lindsay Lohan.

Q2)        Muhammad 7th became the twelfth Sultan: on 3rd October, 1392.   Sultan of where: the Emirate of Jerez, the Emirate of Badajoz or the Emirate of Granada?
A2)        The Emirate of Granada.   (According to his Wikipedia entry, he was part of the Nasrid dynasty.)

Q3)        The Kingdom of Iraq became independent from the UK, on 3rd October.   3rd October of which year of the 1930s?
A3)        1932.

Q4)        3rd October, 1226, saw the death of Francis of Assisi.   He founded which monastic order: the Franciscans, Cistercians or Jesuits?
A4)        The Franciscans.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Actor, Noah Schnapps, was born: on 3rd October, 2004.   Who does he voice in 2015’s The Peanuts Movie?
A5)        Who else?   Charlie Brown.

Here’s a thought …
“If you see a little less spring in my step, if your name fails to leap to my lips, you will know why.   And if I tell you a funny story for the second time, please laugh anyway.”
Charlton Heston, October 4, 1923 – April 5, 2008.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I did try and explain the different video formats to Jude, in terms of old fashioned video cassettes tapes: and how VHS tapes were different to Betamax.   Completely forgetting that — as bright as Jude is — he’d never actually heard of video cassettes: at least, until I’d mentioned them!   He is only twelve, after all.

We eventually managed to do the conversion on my aging MacPro tower: in about half an hour.

Rest and nephew-sitting done, Olga.   Although you may have noticed we had issues!   We’re going have to juggle files, on Sunday.   (He needs to put files from his PS5 onto his USB stick: then we need to transfer them to my USB stick through Grandma’s laptop!   There’s a lot of technobabble needed to explain that!)
Oh, cheers for the comment on the Threads post: I’ve left you a reply, if you’re interested!

        Hello, Mum!

§        That they were, Debbi!   I don’t think the UK versions were as well received: even though Mitchell and Webb — the British comics who did them — are well thought of.

Q1) the Fifth French Republic?

Q2) 24

Q3) Ben Hur

Q4) 1957

Q5) Germany
Video cassettes... You might as well talk to Jude about the Rosetta Stone, I guess. I was watching one of the quiz programmes on the telly, and the three contestants were quite young, and they couldn't guess the pannel that reminded them that, in the past, people might have had to queue to use a phone.
I'll check it out, thanks.

Tell Jude it could be worse. I'm doing my best to try to make a short film and submit it to a contest by Oct. 13. We'll see. Wish me luck! :)
